So I've been looking for something trashy to watch this season and tried "I'm the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire!" which was, like, the third highest rated generic fantasy this season, and the show is objectively absolute dogshit.

Meanwhile, this show is rated under a 6 on both MAL and AniList and yet is actually watchable when 5s used to be reserved for things genuinely unwatchable to 99.8% of the population.

This made me look at old ecchi anime from the 2010s and I saw NouCome went from a 7.77 on MAL in 2014 to 7.13, barely above a 6. I bet it's a similar story for all the other modern-ish ecchi.

Gen Z/Alpha are fucking ratings and I can't even trust the trash on the bottom of the season to be unwatchable, or the top of the season to at least be somewhat watchable. Fucking hell.

I do read the synopsis and watch the PVs for things I'm interested in but you used to be able to rely on the bottom 3 of the season (which Takamine was) being unwatchable, and the top 3 at least being watchable, safe picks, for most. I've watched things like Ayaka which was near the bottom of a season an enjoyed it, then I watched shit like Magic Maker which was near the top of the season for fantasy and it was quite bad overall, although I still watched it since the premise was interesting enough.

Thankfully for future anons, Takamine just went from a 5.97 to a 6.28 on MAL so it's no longer in the bottom three of the entire season.

tl;dr it should be ok to rely on ratings to a certain degree, especially for trash shows you don't particularly care about. But it's not.
