/a/ thrives on hype, and the slow pacing of story is hostile to hype. Doesn't help that Hara hasn't produced a single memorable spectacle for the conquest of Han

Compare that to Baki. Baki's pacing is also slow as hell: a couple of attacks thrown and then the readers sit through a soliloquy on fight philosophy. But Itagaki knows how to hype and he also knows spectacle (however ridiculous it is[/spoiler]

I can guarantee you less than 1% of the board has read kingdom, and don't pretend like what's happening in boruto is even slightly as interesting as a kingdom chapter. The manga hasn't dipped below a 9/10 in quality since the coalition arc, it is consistently great. But these manga didn't lose popularity. On western manga sites. Where they are frequently the most heavily discussed manga in those sites. And it didn't effect the jump manga here, so it's pretty clear what /a/ has become. A place to discuss one piece, dragon ball, and naruto. This used to be a place where people would say "everyone is an asshole here but they really know their stuff". This objectively isn't true anymore. Nigger, the sonic manga thread has more posts. This board is a sad parody of old /a/. Every day there's less and less reasons for someone with genuine interest in manga and anime to be here. Despite 1/5 of the catalogue being dailies I have zero reason to come here to discuss manga. When a manga piracy site equivalent for anime discussion arises, there won't be any reason to come here for seasonals either. Its obvious which way the wind is blowing.

Kingdom is a manga with dense political plots, strategic multi-volume battles, and historical references. JoJo is surrealistic /fa/ manga about full-lipped teenagers punching vampires. I don't think a storytime will promote discussion. It doesn't seem to have helped JoJo either, despite taking much less effort to follow. nu/a/ seems more interested in naruto and sonig the edgehog, and pubes for some reason, and that appears to be the whole board to me. All of mangadex has been 1:1 copied to comick and kingdom only has one translator, so you could read it on weebcentral. It's also popular enough to have its own dedicated site for hosting the manga, a quick Google search could have revealed that. And what do you mean "if I have the time", you're not doing anything right now lol. It's ALSO getting an official English physical print in November. How can you claim to have any interest in manga and not know this? Did you simply halt reading manga when mangadex died? When it was a shitty site you should have never used? And you should have been using a reader to back everything anyways so you can just migrate your subs? This is common sense. This site used to be for diehard otaku, what happened? This is like basic information you can even find on wotaku which even the dumbest tiktok zoomer knows about.

The main issue with the anime is that the over-the-top insanely retarded violence has been censored and like 50% of the manga is people being dismembered in crazy ways. Even if the anime was a literal sideshow it would be top-tier if it included that, just because everything is so well written. It's still pretty fun to watch but it's like a 6/10 whereas the manga is a 9/10. Kingdom has the Berserk curse where it's so crazy it can't be properly adapted.

> this arc had pretty nice fast pacing.
That was my takeaway. Excellently paced, even the big silly bash'em crash'em battles weren't dragged out senselessly long, all of the political and social intrigue was fun and succinct, the big emotional moments didn't waste full chapters just to convey how emotional they were, and then we finally get to the last few chapters where it's fucking OVER, but rather than belabor the point with 4-5 chapters of stalemate or "Oh no, what's he going to do?!????" or a needless battle in the capital, we just got to the point, had our final last words said, and moved on. Good on Hara, this manga may have some fire still in it.

In the greater Western manga enjoyer sphere, I'm not exactly sure why this series isn't as popular. Some people get filtered early on with the Chinese names in the first 50 chapters, but given a tiny amount of investment it's easy to get back to the Japanese renames, some people just get filtered by Chinese Anything in general, some people just generally have a hard time following a story that isn't about some self-insert Isekai protagonist who has a harem and a cheat power. It's hard to say.

On /a/, specifically, it's because of the comical inconsistency with chapter drops. Sometimes we get breaks, sometimes we're on schedule, raws drop anywhere from 3 seconds to several days after public release, translations come in anywhere from 3 seconds to several days after the raws are dropped, Sense-Scans is numerous chapters behind and struggle to keep up, and the worst part is that through all of this, and SpeedTL anon sometimes gets the jump on all of this without any regularity. It's really hard to keep track without something like Kingdom Tuesday so we always know when it's going to be a Kingdom Thread Day.
