You know the drill.
In a setting filled with magic, the MC is a member of the bureaucracy in charge of cataloging different types of spells, creatures, phenomenon's, and spirits. He lives a respectable life for the most part and in his free time he writes anonymous articles for a magazine that gives speculation advice regarding the mage arena matches, where he has a good reputation, save for the fact that he always bets against the undefeated champion of the arena: an Archmage who's a Divine Summoner.
In truth, he always wanted to fight in the arena himself, but could never muster the mana internally, channel it from the natural world, or make any contracts, on top of never being able to choose a school of magic that 'fit'. However, one day he's accosted by the "Demon-blooded' Archmage, a woman with holes in her fingers from which black ichor leaks that she can draw sigils with, who's notorious for churning through disciples. She found him through his articles and offers to teach him in exchange for paying a price later, which he immediately accepts, seeing his chance.
Later it's revealed by the demon-blooded that the reason he never found success is that he was afraid to commit to one magic, because it could've been the 'wrong' choice, thus he never realized any deeper skill. She makes him swear an oath to one school of magic, forsaking every other if he wishes to still be her student. Having discovered his love for fighting and winning, he makes the obvious choice, the strongest magic: Divine Summoning. But since he's not beloved by angels, he has to bind them in some way, so he permanently sacrifices some of his mana to create chains and nails that enslave the divine beings he summons to his will. The series would follow his path to the top, while magical incidents and wizard-like intrigue go on in the background.
It'd be titled "Crucifier" as a reference to what he does to angels and how he's crucifying his passions.
