The White Purity Iai Style is literally among the most known martial arts styles, and it allows you to effectively buff yourself (maybe not to the extent of a trained sorcerer, that's not been made clear), because you use Ki for that (which is something *ALL* humans have, even if not everyone utilizes or trains it). There's nothing explicitly stating that the mooks can't use any Ki or anything like that.
