I completely disagree. Whether Yamato would win the race was never in doubt. In the same way nobody with a brain would ever think Ami and Yamato weren't going to end up together. But we were robbed of the chance to see the moment of Yamato's triumph. And it makes a huge chunk of the manga feel pointless. Honestly, that's true for most of the subplots in the manga. Like, what was the point of any of Yamato's dormmates? Ogata was the only one who got any character development. The rest popped up for a couple gags and then got paired off with side characters. Looking back a lot of the manga was carried by the chemistry between Yamato and Ami.

Ayame is excited about the matchmaking shrine tour that Hina planned.
She says her older sister asked her to bring back a good luck charm too.
Meanwhile, Hina remembers what Haruto said last chapter but decides to mentally throw that memory away.

Ayame tells Hina how fun it is to go places with everyone and how she wants to make lots of memories together.
She’s already super hyped — even though they’re still on the bullet train.

The group arrives in Kyoto and immediately splits into their activity groups.
Taiki’s group includes Kyo, Hina, Ayame, and Niina — the regular crew.
Notably, the girls who’ve had drama with Hina aren’t seen this time.

As they visit Kyoto landmarks, the idea comes up for the badminton club members to take a photo together.
Ayame volunteers to be the photographer.
Since she won’t be in the picture, Kyo speaks up and says, “Let’s get everyone in, even Chono-san’s group.”
Thanks to his consideration, they take a new photo with the “gym crew”: Taiki, Kyo, Hina, Ayame, and Niina all smiling and flashing peace signs.

Ayame glances at Kyo with a pouty face.
It looks like she wants to thank him — but she gets flustered and runs off without saying anything.

When they arrive at the inn, Taiki calls Chinatsu.
She’s her usual cheerful self.
They switch to video call so they can see each other as they talk.
Chinatsu is in the middle of eating that baumkuchen she received earlier.
She just says it was a gift — but there's still no clue shown about who it was from.

From their conversation, we learn that the first day was free time (which is why the regular group was together), and tomorrow they’ll be split into assigned groups.
They start talking about visiting Kinkakuji and other sights, imagining the trip as if they were walking through Kyoto together — it feels almost like a virtual date.

Ayame, watching Taiki’s happy phone call, softens and smiles.
