The 90s aesthetic is honestly some of the best in anime. It's a beautiful artstyle and IMO better than a lot of contemporary art styles.

It does feel a bit dated due to tropes you've seen 1000 times before but the look is great.

OVA 1/2 - best art style, best characterization
ova 3/4/5 - complete dog shit that gets progressively worse the further it goes
universe- most fun, worst quality of art, terrible rips
movie 1/3 - pretty good but formulaic
movie 2 - a fever dream/ the writer's barely disguised fetish
tokyo - funniest, mid quality art, was originally a sequel to universe

Fun fact, Tenchi's the living avatar of Ryoko's grandpa.

To explain further the creator god of that universe is also the direct creator of both Washu (Ryoko's mother/creator) and Tsunami (The founder of Jurai and the god inside Sasami). Tenchi is literally the incarnation of that being. That's why he can manifest so many of those white wings.

So I actually got into this for the first time recently, watching in JP but I checked out the dub since I know so many love it and I have to ask. I get why people like most of the voices, Ryoko's especially is unique enough and fitting, but how the hell wasn't Ayeka's voice ridiculed? Like what was that performance going for?

Ryoko, Ayeka, and Sasami all spent most of the time in between Yosho chasing Ryoko down to Earth and sealing her away in stasis.
Washu was trapped by Kagato well before that.
Mihoshi and Noike are the only ones that are roughly the age they appear.
