What is she going to do to Kyoto? I'm scared
I genuinely don't even know how to rate this anime. I like the first cour quite a lot, and I appreciate that the writing strives for realism, it's not exactly going for a Baby Sherlock vibe. I also like the fact that the story doesn't make excuses for their main characters' immaturity, it treats it all with intense moral weight, which is very much a breath of fresh air. I just think that the payoff wasn't that great and the story ended with a bunch of loose ends that robs it of humanity. Like for example what the fuck was the deal with Cobalto's girlfriend? Did she exist only to make a point about how flawed of a man he is? Also, I genuinely do feel that the second cour ruined Osanai's character to a very large extent, she feels incredibly unlikeable know, like some capricious deity. The show doubling down on Osanai labelling him as "the next best option" is so very incomprehensible to me, even if I can somewhat understand this as a punishment the first time around for their falling out. This was a very weird ride for me.
>>279862079What was this about?
So Osanai calls Juggalo her second best option into basically getting him to look for her in Kyoto
Yep, it's Osanai alright
>>279861741This was the most romantic scene from any anime so fat this year (and nothing will top it)
Osanai's voice is something else
>>279861962They're far, far too autistic to fuck
They might to kiss once, after living together for 7 years
>>279862117The angel of death
>>279862150I want her to whisper in my ear.
>>279861970It's supposed to end here, but the ending feels extremely inconclusive. Of course we won't get further adaptations (as there's nothing to adapt anymore) but a sequel novel in Kyoto with a conclusive ending would be cool. The author is willing to keep writing about them in the future, so that keeps me hopeful.
>>279861840they literally tricked us by putting a metalic sound in the last scene, I still don't know where that came from
>>279861741They're too fucked in the kokoro to do a kiss scene. It's a story about fundamentally abnormal people pretending to be normal after all.
>>279862104>The show doubling down on Osanai labelling him as "the next best option" is so very incomprehensible to meAnon, before Kobato got hit by the car they both would have split their separate ways after graduating from High School, but now Osanai wants to continue their relationship. If you don't understand that "next best option" this time was entirely different, I'm not sure what to say.
Osanai setting up a maze of sweets and mysteries in Kyoto makes it sound like sheโs jumping ship to a Morimi series lol
The whole mystery this cour was one big woman moment.

>>279861162low-stakes? the stakes just keep going up in this series, the real problem now is how do the stakes go any higher after Kobato already had someone go after him because of a previous case
>>279862233I think at least 1 more book in Kyoto would be cool, where the plot is Kobato looking for Osanai, while the former tries to fuck with the investigation from the shadows.
Would be a cute way to end the series, but it would lack interections between the two of them, so maybe another case with the two would be better

I appreciate your interpretation of the events and I will honestly think about it when remembering this anime, but let us not pretend that was obviously going to happen.
Osanai in the second cour is a way more devastatingly chaotic and unlikeable character. She was always a sort of biblical plague, but there was this vague motivation about security and justice. In the second cour, she's mostly defined by capriciousness.

>inb4 osanai find her best option and have sex with him
There was no need to be cheeky and change the words because Retribution is the title of the episode and it's the whole theme of the arc.

>>279863103This arc definitely swings more toward him actually being human but heโs been a really bland character for most of the show. I like the storyline of him becoming more mature and reasonable after chuuni detective playing has normal consequences in fucked Japanese society but so much of the time he really is just a bland face on screen.
>>279857971 (OP)It was the most enjoyable show this season and it's a nice ending. I would have loved to see a few frames of Jougoro opening a cafรฉ in Kyoto and seeing Osanai with a slightly different style to confirm again her growth as a character but it's fine.
>I thoroughly realized that in the end, I donโt like myself much. I would always lament that whenever I impertinently swung around my blade of wisdom and pierced someone with it, the spurts of blood would always sully my hands. How can I like myself when I take on such an attitude? But then againโฆ even if it shames me so, thereโs nothing I can do but to accept myself for who I am. Iโll be alone now, after all.

>She said her piece well, but I couldnโt bring myself to agree. While I wanted to be a hero who light-heartedly saves others and disappears with great panache, I was never the type of self-sacrificing hero who put their own life on the line, and even now I think that if something like that ever happened again, I would probably save myself. Yet, someone like me was able to save Osanai-san in that moment.>Everything else didnโt matter. In that one instant when an irreversible conclusion was crashing down on us, with our lives on a wafer-thin line, Iโd picked an option that wasnโt bad, and it somehow worked out well.>I hid my eyes with my palm. >>279864254He will write hyouka short stories after 11 years instead. (like he did with shoushimin)
>>279864299It's genuinely amazing in a way that's kinda hard to explain. It's not like the premise or plot are earth-shattering. The anime itself is simply very good. The writing, characters, sound, etc. It's just very well put together

>>279862885>just desertsyes I know that the phrase was originally that, not desserts
>>279864825Honestly a fair assumption, since she started it by leaving him notes, but the coy way she said it was so perfect.
>>279864088You should rewatch Hyouka, itโs always worth it. The production values are just too much better for Shoushimin to challenge it but I do like Shoushiminโs premise, tone and themes. It even clearly has parallels to parts of Hyouka. Itโs difficult because Hyouka has a much more whimsical tone and exploration of grey and rose colored things so itโs easier to make that expressive in anime, but the Shoushimin adaption fails to create a sufficient style in my opinion. Instances of what they tried to do working is something like Kobatoโs mental landscape that will change to reflect his thinking. But then the crime scene recreation imagery is just normal, a depiction without character. A more stylized depiction would go part of the way toward making up for the lack of internal dialogue. I think the opening animation really proves this because it demonstrates really well how to convey tone and meaning with direction and image theory. Kobatoโs perspective as a detail oriented observer is depicted really well. The tomato deduction debacle showcased it; so did the hospital arc where so much of the situation was communicated to the audience just through all the stuff he looks at in sequence. His reactions to anything were the least apparent aspect throughout the show, especially with scenes where he and Osanai leverage social pressures to manipulate people showing how much they can fake.
Well, I liked this cour way more than the first one. This season, and overall this year is way stronger than the last one, so I can't say it's my AOTS or AOTY, but I would still put it within my four-three favorites this season.

>>279864619She had no plan. She was just a shoushimin faced with the dilemma of being furious enough to kill out of revenge but too much of a coward to go through with it. Keeping Jogoro in the hospital was a vain attempt at buying time to think of how to avoid being identified as the culprit.

>>279865234Well since everyone else is at it, AOTS is easily Shoushimin for me.
Apocalypse Hotel could've been a contender if it was more consistently like the last episode but it's just way too hit and miss.
The only other thing that could come close is Aru Majo ga Shinu Made which started slow but every episode is better than the last.
>>279865443For me it was Jogoro making the orange haired whore seethe uncontrollably by doing absolutely nothing but being himself lmao
>>279864929From what I can tell, most of the others are classic Agatha Christie-style mystery novels, not "everyday school mysteries" like Kotenbu and Shoushimin.
It seems there exist English subtitles for the movie adaptation of Incite Mill, so you can watch that I guess
>>279864168we'll have no more these edits now... what a shame
>>279865571AOTY by far and pretty much the most significant series of the past few years. Itโs not a train wreck in the slightest and has important ideas for renewing otaku culture. Tomino himself has said that Gundam should reflect contemporary discourse surrounding war and Gqux is leading the way by making a refugee a protagonist while pointing toward the mythos of the Cold War that has yet to be broken in the postwar period.
>>279865631>i think id be lost as i have never watched gundamI'm watching it without knowing anything about UC Gundam besides what I've picked up through cultural osmosis, and it works fine as a standalone story.
That said, Shoushimin is still easily my AOTS and strongest AOTY candidate. It's the only show so far I kept compulsively thinking about on non-airing days.

>>279865631Gqux does a good job of explaining any part of the original that you need to know to enjoy it as a stand alone story, but its full potential really comes from having both seen the 0079 through CCA entries and read about the impact and fandom surrounding Gundam. It is very much a meta text in conversation with the franchiseโs past.
What was the last cake? I am trying to investigate.

Didn't the series start with Kobato not liking sweets? She groomed him and turned him into a sweets lover? How does that even happen? Was it psychological?

I'm retarded enough I thought she was hallucinating her brother's ghost, and these wide shots I didn't really pay attention to were to establish she was talking to herself. Had to go back and check when Kobato started talking to the ghost.
>>279866979Yeah that's the entire point
Did you miss the end of the first season where he disliked the sweets after breaking up?
>>279865234For me, only Kusuriya can compete with Shoushimin for AOTS/AOTY right now.

>>279867014Honestly before I saw him walking with the cane I thought he might've been since the way she said, "It's becasue of you he jumped" highly implied that it killed him from the wording.
>>279866979Itโs like Oreki rejecting rose colored life but being sucked into Chitandaโs rose colored world until he eventually imagines staying at her side. He actually does like sweets but he denied that part of himself as he wanted to repent by avoiding doing detective stuff.
>>279861267>>279866402Fucking hilarious, I wonder what was going through her mind as she was fondling her brother's killer's wet penis
>>279867123But what's the link between detective stuff and sweets? Now that I think about it, what about his parents? We at least saw Osanai's mom, but not Kobato's. We even saw Kengo's sister. We didn't see Kobato's parents at the hospital too.
>>279867104>>279867014Unless I missed something, I think it is supposed to be ambiguous until that very moment. Kobato wasnโt aware of what had happened to him with the last message from Kengo being about his not appearing in tournaments since then. Since she said he jumped I also thought he was dead and was confused what sort of trick Osanai had prepared. Pocket pepperโฆmixed with scopolamine.

Kobato might not be her prince charming, but she is more than willing to settle for him, as she implicitly stated by telling him to go to the same college as her.
>>279867196Osanai enjoys sweets and revenge, she doesnโt actually restrain herself. Kobato likes doing the detective thing, itโs a sweet for him. He wanted to restrain himself to not repeat the damage he did so heโs cutting back on that sweet he enjoys.

The visual display in both Seasons has been super enjoyable to me, I really liked Jogoro's visualization of events and him putting himself in the shoes of the criminals. They used this radio tower in his mind a lot this season which I liked.
>>279867644I agree with you anon, I could see Gqux working if it had double the runtime but as it stands, it's characters mostly acting retarded and pretending to care about people they've known for a grand of total of maybe a couple of weeks. It's completely nonsensical

>>279867763I really like its social aspect, the way that the crimes in which they become involved and the way they are navigated spreads out like a web through their town and high school community. Itโs โgrittierโ and more outward looking than Hyouka. A good example of this is how Kobato and Kengo arenโt really friends even if they can be friendly while Kengoโs interest in protecting peace brings Kobato into his orbit. The entire exploration of how should a normal person behave toward others, the difference between aligning as peers and sticking oneโs nose in, or faking what shouldnโt be faked.
But thatโs also why I praise Gqux even more highly. Itโs even more outward looking and critical of certain social norms like discrimination against refugees and immigrants.
>>279867867>the final puzzle is the key to her heart

With its current length it has communicated its ideas to you well enough that you can construct all of those extra episodes. >>279867480Yeah this and it's placement was nice with the song was good, still find it kind of funny that the female newspaper club member made it in considering that she might have only spoken once. Pic related had more of a hand in things.
>>279868115>this place has become filled with tourists who donโt understand just how progressive otaku culture has always been. The closest otaku have come to being progressive is accidentally supporting LGBTQ when it suits their fetishes.
Otaku culture has always been about owning ideal women and pretending they would marry you.
Many anime are progressive, but they're not really made by otaku.
>>279868118A great example of the outward looking nature compared to Hyouka is the arsonist arc vs the school festival arc. Hyouka is much more limited in showing things directly around Oreki, who isolates himself, and opens up more so when they visit Chitanda whose character is defined by her community roots. In Shoushimin the arsonist arc focuses on a plot that sprawls across the city rather than just their high school and we see things like the internal politics of the newspaper club covering it. Hyouka is closely looking at the moment Oreki gets dragged out of his empty grey world into Chitandaโs vibrant rose world. Shoushimin starts with Kobato much more socially conscious, he tries to retrain himself to not hurt others. The plots themselves involve previous classmates, driving schools on the other side of town, delinquent girl gangs, and all sorts of other things rooted in the social fabric of society.
If you say some dumb shit about a show thatโs objectively good, expect to get pushback. Disliking Gqux is one thing but thinking it is poorly written is just stupidity.
>>279868123Urino was basically fucked the moment he started bad-mouthing Kengo.
Kotaro is her second best because Kengo's number 1.
All the girls want to drink Kengo's hot milk
>>279868281>why did you shoot me>i dont knowabsolutely stellar writing

>>279859996It's funny thinking back to the first 2 episode's threads where people were ready for him to go.
>>279868315Imagine being so autistic you can't understand the difference between friendship and employment (TN: actually kidnapping).
>>279868324then he beat 4 women and instantly became a hero
.......wow it's been a nice, long sleep. Guess I should try watching episode 2 nex...t...........zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
>>279868315If you donโt understand why Nyaan shot her you are retarded. It is that simple. You do understand though, you just have to pretend it doesnโt make sense because you are forcing yourself to not like the show. Youโre mentally ill lol
>>279867014>I thought this too
>>279866857incredible taste, but you're forgetting yaiba
>>279868441The story gives absolutely no time for any events to breathe. So the pacing makes everything risible. I'm sorry you don't understand what proper form is.
>>279868199We still need a thread where I can compile all the Kengo edits in.
Just finished the last ep. I'm gonna miss this fucking lewd cutie patootie. I hope their kids become as autistic as they are.
>>279868546Needing time for events to breathe is a retarded meme invented by dumb people and not actual analysis lol
Every episode of Gqux is well paced and tells a coherent story. It is objectively good and no one cares that you donโt have the ability to activate the emotions a story tells you activate without drowning you in ten episodes of the same thing.
>>279867546>>279867587retards bitch batch is 26 episodes
>>279868598You're a parody, anon. Just fuck off.
>>279868587Imagine licking her armpits
>>279868640No, kill yourself, tourist. Your ideas about what is good or bad writing are incredibly stupid and should never be repeated in case someone accidentally thinks your opinion should be emulated. Every bit of pop culture analysis retardation you tourists bring in needs to be stamped out.
>>279868640>>279868686You will never be fukushuu
>>279868686I already told you to fuck off.
>>279868708I already told you to kill yourself
Both of you should just get a room. I recommend the Gqux general.
>>279868718Will do. After you fuck off, okay?
>>279868741No. Just kill yourself. Any time you post some dumb shit I will just tell you to kill yourself because you need to be gatekept for the sake of board quality. Youโre a retard who posts dumb shit.
>>279868544I'm not watching it. I might do it later on.
>>279868544Yaiba is incredibly unappreciated. It's a shame.
>>279868548Iโve been infected with the Kengo bug too
>>279868829Why did he do it?
>>279868771You need to fuck off for the sake of board quality.
>>279868878You tried to smear me by deflecting to Shoushimin thinking I wouldnโt talk about the thread topic yet you canโt even respond when I did. Youโre a tourist who only likes anime ironically lol
>>279868544The Bat episode of that is still one of my favorites of the whole anime season.
Wish there were more webms or Ben just images of it in its thread when I looked back at the archive.
the actual hidden gems this season are uchuujin muumuu, teogonia and classic stars
>>279868917Would be better if she looked bored
>>279868981I can't take Teogonia too seriously because of all those DAMNED MACAQUES. But it's been a good watch, I won't deny. It's a shame we'll never see a sequel or even a manga translation.
>>279869060I'm fine with the monkes, because at least it's not a standard isekai species like the orcs
>>279869150I get what you're saying, but it's just so funny.
But yeah, this was really underappreciated and I'm definitely sad to see it go.
>>279868981>uchuujin muumuuBut anon, did you retain how and why exactly a microwave and refrigerator work? Or did that knowledge ultimately evaporate away the further that 1st episode you got?
>>279869221It's common knowledge? All the science was middle school tier.
>>279869221it evaporated immediately because the tls are done by a bunch of retarded seaniggers
>>279869274Yeah true, I was just seeing if people forgot the finer points or not
>>279869309Also true
>>279868962Kill yourself, tourist
>>279869391Kindly fuck off.
>>279868872Because he could.
>>279868587Same, Osanai as a mother sounds scary
>>279865234Ninkoro aoty, this for aots (or runner up if you think aoty also has to be aots).
Last season aots was 100gf s2 i guess.
>ninkoro
why do you people like that yurishit
>>279869976Ninkoro was such a surprising anime for me. It's both a comedy with really great bones but also delivers some really unexpected gut punches. This season really delivered unexpected hits.
>>279869976>if you think aoty also has to be aotsI mean, shouldn't it?
If you thought a show was the best of the year that logically includes the season it aired in
>>279861696Osanai in that outfit is pure sex.
>>279870176Logically yes which is why i bothered mentioning, i just like putting aoty on its category above aots instead of just repeating the same show, specially when i fill up charts.
>>279870164Im a shaft fanboy so i knew they were adapting this beforehand so i checked the manga before, but even so it had enough new in it to surprise me. I wish Shaft adapted more weirdo manga like it, its when they shine the best.
>>279870271She is always sex
>>279869976That's fair enough so far actually, do you think anything this upcoming season has a chance to take the top spot?
The only anime I'm watching this season are Shoushin, Apocalypse Hotel, and Yaiba.
>>279870271I also like a good turtleneck
>>279861696She looks like a penis here
the opinions of those who watch less than 30 shows a season will not be respected
>>279862417I started laughing when I got to that part. To think I doubted KenGOD before in the very first episode.
>>279870384Not everyone is a NEET.
>>279870384There has never been a season with 30 shows worth watching
>>279870307I havent decided on what to watch next season but from a quick glance what im interested that isnt a sequel is
>the 3 sisters showread the manga, its repetitive but cute
>bad girlsim a ctgdct fag
>cityliked nichijou
>gem duo girlsi like to see what studio bind does
>nukitashisee if they deliver well on the ecchi
I dont think anything seems like aoty material, but we will see.
>>279870477I'm not a NEET, I work from home
>>279870510the only season in recent memory that had less than 30 shows was summer '20
>>279870585>wfhBacklog status?
>>279870632working on it at this very moment
>>279865234I'm enjoying Ninkoro the most by far, might even be my AOTY. After that, Apocalypse Hotel.
>>279870585>the only season in recent memory that had less than 30 shows was summer '20My point is that I'll never watch 30 anime per season because a judgement call alone is enough to know if I'll like it. The ratio of anime I didn't watch but wish I did to anime I'm glad I didn't watch is like 1:10000
>>279870678Ninkoro, Apocalypse Hotel, Samurai Yaiba, Hibimeshi and Shoushimin Series are my top 5 this season (not necessarily in this order). I'm really grateful that this season delivered so much greatness, it's such a great feeling when you're able to consistently enjoy so much great anime per season.
Summer season is looking grim though. I'm looking at the calender and it's a pit of hopelessness.
>>279870546Next Season looks like it has a lot of strong and varied styles that standout for a good handful of what's airing, so I'm definitely looking forward to it on the whole.
Takopii airs in a week already so I guess that's what I'll be watching on Saturday now.
>It's over
IT'S OVER
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
WHY CAN'T THEY MAKE GOOD ANIME LIKE THIS MORE OFTEN
>>279870876>HibimeshiMeant to check it out, but I never did after I caught up with Mono first. Which was really kinda meh.
>>279870876Hibimeshi is shit.
>>279870942Hibimeshi is everything Mono wished to be. A healing, uplifting slice of life in the truest sense of the word.
>>279870942I caught up on Hibimeshi late in the season. It's definitely not the best thing ever, but it has a really healing vibe. Also, the production has a surprising amount of pedigree despite not being an anime with great production value. By no means is it an obligatory watch, but to me it was the CGDCT of the season.
