Anime and anime fandom died in 2009. For me, it was obvious when AoT premiered and they had that Teens React channel (remember that) pretend to care about anime because it was decided around that time it was going to be usurped and forced into mainstream culture.

Exactomundo. IPhone, OWS, MySpace/Facebook ushering in social media. The first decade of this millenium was the last gasp of real life before the technocratic Bolshevik dystopian shithole age we live in now. If he had any dignity and balls, we'd just off ourselves out of mercy.

It started around 2010-2015, but it completely died in 2020 when anime exploded to complete normie levels of popularity. Suddenly you are the weird one for NOT watching anime.

This is a truthful post. Even back in 2019, I remember how otakudom still had massive stigma. As Gen Z came of YA age that's when the jig was well and truly up.

So I wonder what they're watching.

NOTHING. They like the idea of anime and being an otaku in a very ironic sense but obviously detest any real notion of anime and otakudom. Losers of the lowest kind. Pretend to be what they despise and shit up the sandbox people who actually are like that play in just for sheer senseless thoughtless reasonless spite.

That was like three or four years later retard.
>and they had that Teens React channel (remember that) pretend to care about anime because it was decided around that time it was going to be usurped and forced into mainstream culture.
You're underage. Anime was already mainstream among kids and teens by that point- Gundam Wing and SEED were fucking huge, Grisaia nursed a burgeoning VN fandom, and obviously Naruto, Bleach, and Dragon Ball were like fucking crack in the 00s. SnK was merely an extension of that.

Anyways, if you want timeframes
>When did anime die
1982 with the release of Macross. Alternatively, 1988 with the release of Gunbuster.
>N-no, I mean when it got big in America!!
1998, at the absolute latest, with Z Day and the already existing popularity of Ranma, UY, and Sailor Moon.

I doubt it was that bad, but cons have definitely changed. I see a bunch of small friend groups literally just sitting around in cosplay all day on their phone or taking a bunch of selphies/tiktoks.
Also way more obviously bought than self made cosplays and way less people talk to each other or want photos taken.
Just feels like anime/cosplay is one big trend hop now.

Fansub -> Streaming transition did it.
Same mechanism though, that is, it lowered the barrier to entry for dumb nigger normalfags to flood in.
