It's like they took the average female personality + traits and superimposed them onto the character they drew.

Ever watch that "whatever" podcast that went viral a few years ago with clips showing how dumb women are? Obviously these are all Instagram thots that go on there, but when the host polled fetishes, choking was always the most popular. Always.

I do think much of the phenomenon is astroturfed by the rise of DDLG fetishists from the 2010s and the recent flood of dark romance novels (darker than Twilight and 50 Shades, even) because you didn't really see any choking outside of gonzo or S&M.
