God, I love Char. He's such a fun character. Lalah was the only one that truly loved him and nothing has filled that void in 14 years. His tone toward Amuro is accusatory, in his mind Amuro transgressed toward him but still acts morally superior by calling out his manipulation of Quess. This coupled with his unresolved bitterness toward Amuro as competition for Lalah's affection made him completely fucking lose it

You forgot the part where he put Lalah ina military death machine and she Boulanger out herself in the way of weaponry. Lalah’s death is overwhelmingly on herself and Char. Maybe like .01% can be attributed to Amuro

Maybe Tomino was not that bad of a director like I thought, he just had people around that still don't get his vision.

I agree it's not Amuro's fault, but Char will never forgive him even if Lalah's spirit doesn't hold Amuro accountable. What makes Char and many Tomino characters feel "real" is that they're hypocritical, prone to emotional outbursts, and brash like real people are. Char has this weird internal logic that makes him morally guiltless in his own mind

Tomino is a very thoughtful writer. His characters have a texture, believability, and depth most writers can not come close to replicating. As I've grown older I've come to appreciate his writing more. Char's arc from 0079 to Zeta to CCA felt so jarring to me before but now it seems completely believable

I absolutely love how Amuro is jus taken aback by this bullshit. Being a newtype doesn't mean you actually understand jack shit about the other person and to this day people don't get that.

>have philosophical debate about the future of humanity with your arch rival during the climactic final battle of your decade and half long rivalry.
>after youu btfo all his arguments he starts crying about how you aren't allowed to judge him, because you killed his 17 year old child prostitute mommy gf 14 years ago.
>you can only repeat after him in utter bafflement at what he just said.
>those were the last words of both of you.
Always makes me kek thinking about it.
I cannot imagine what it was like to be Amuro at that moment.

The entire movie is Char trying to be understood by Amuro. I feel like at that moment when Char breaks down - no masks, no politics, no ideology, just pure human emotion - after being initially baffled, it finally clicked for Amuro just how Char felt and that understanding invoked the Axis Shock

Pretty sure what invoked axis shock were the feddies and zekes working together.

How do I cope with the old animation of the original MSG so I can experience this greatness.
UC in general is a fucking minefield to navigate and only been recently interested in it after experiencing Hathaway.

You should be able to just watch it and focus on the story, but maybe try acclimating gradually with some early-mid 80s anime, which tend to have more moderate animation styles. You could also jump into the deep end with early Tatsupro and Toei like Mazinger so Gundam will seem cutting edge by comparison.
