Honestly as mediocre as the ending was...I can't really hate it.

Black Star. Obnoxious fuckwit with a single hyperbolised character trait every scene he's in revolves around. Couldn't stand him in the manga, so definitely not going to check out an animated adaptation where audible vocals are appended to his shouting.

The anime didn't get to adapt the whole manga. Manga was great and then it got a prequel series that's getting fully adapted. Not much wrong with it at all.

What about that part early on where Tsubaki is fighting her brother?
BlackStar sits and watches. He gives a little speech about how he is letting her take the lead role.
Then when some villagers and the kids start throwing rocks at him, he just takes it because he is there to watch over Tsubaki. He only moves when a kid tries to whack Tsubaki with a stick and Black Star just blocks the stick and tells him to back off?

Black Star gives up the center stage and doesn't misuse his strength against the powerless NPCs. So that's more depth right there

I think the whole last half of the Soul Eater anime lost the feel of the manga.
However, I will give credit to them for their ideas on how Maka fought in her scythe form. With the scythes taking different sizes and shapes to attack and trap the Kishin. That felt like something from Ohkubo and they deserve a lot of credit for that.

That said, the courage punch is real bad.
The Kishin is an Old God of fear. It can't be so easily killed by a bit of courage. This should be obvious but its especially stupid because everyone that fought the Kishin was doing so with courage.
Even worse, Maka did it all on her own. It is fine that Kid and BS went down but Maka even went on without Soul as well. That isn't Soul Resonance. That isn't "Soul Eater"


Kishin also acted real dumb. I don't remember exactly but it seemed to act like animated Joker from Batman. That's how someone would write the Kishin after hearing about the concept of the character but it isn't at all like how Ohkubo portrayed the character.

This is one of the highest tier of wanking you can give to a character. Making them appear super noble and good, by "not taking the spotlight" and "helping the weak". You can basically find this in all the most wanked characters in manga: Jellal, Yuno, Yukio, Benimaru, Bakugo, etc

In the anime Black Star gets his ass kicked by the Kishin to the point he can't move anymore and Maka is the one who saves the day by beating him on her own, the anime fellates Maka while the manga fellates Black Star, I personally like Maka more so I think the anime is better overall

He was popular at the start of the manga in Japan, but as soon as the mangaka wanking him nonstop he dropped in popularity with Soul, Maka and Kidd all beating Black Star in popularity by the end of the manga, what I didn't like is that in the manga after they trap Kishin in the moon there are crowds of people praising Black Star surrounding him and claiming he's a God now with the other half praising Kidd, the teachers even said "As long as Black Star and you Kidd are alive we have nothing to fear", while Maka is just sitting far away on some stairs alone with Soul, Maka was the sole reason they managed to trap Kishin on the Moon as she convinced Crona to help her and Soul yet the only person who gave her any sort of rightful credit was Kidd, that's why I like the anime better, the mangaka clearly was butthurt over it's changed in the anime original half so he went out of it's way to do the exact opposite from it in the manga as much as he could

The Blair witch was flying in chapter 1 of the manga. Then Death's Kidd flew in chapter 3. I'm not going to go through the effort of tabulating but it wouldn't be strange if some 1/3 of the SE cast can fly in the end.
