I mean, we ARE getting sequels after all, they just have big time gaps and 12 eps. Maho2 especially since it doesn't have a crossover element like Otona.

The problem with a main timeslot sequel is finding a way to keep the toyline fresh enough that parents and kids would feel like buying rather than skipping, even shows like Doremi had to reinvent themselves every season, yeah the major theme was witches but they changed the sub-theme.

In the end it's hard to keep consistency too, shows that have a first good season could end up with a worse second season, although it could lead to situations with shows with a half-baked first season getting better with a second season. (Doremi is one of the few franchises that escaped this because all the seasons are good imo)

The murder of Hisui being played off as a joke leaves a sour taste in my mouth. You'd never get away with that crap in a Sunday timeslot these days. Imagine if Haa-chan was slaughtered but haha it's okay Rapapa is there so it doesn't matter

For WP it starts in ep12 (Nyammy Vs Owl) and ends in ep19 (Lillian debut), that's 8 eps.

Meanwhile the PuriMero arc kicks off around ep 17 (or 16 depending on who you ask but it doesn't focus that much on them just yet), current ep is 20 so it's 4-5 eps so far with at least more 2 confirmed eps in the horizon, for a total of 6-7 eps. I think you could confidently add more 1 or 2 eps after that and it would be close to the range of the cat arc in WP, the only difference is that it started earlier in WP compared to Idol.

After the owl fight they focus pretty consistently either on Nyammy or Mayu, that's a clear focus on the mid-season Cures, it does have some breather episodes like the Mehmeh butler episode but when you think about it that arc extends even beyond the Lillian debut because then it enters the "Yuki truly becomes friends with the group arc" where she goes from only caring about Mayu to becoming closer with the other girls (eps 20-21, which basically compensates for the "breather episodes" in the middle of the arc, so the final episode count it's still the same one).

I do not hate Mayu, in fact I love Mayu. That's why I was so angry when Narita completely assassinated Mayu's character. Or more like, she stabbed her in the back, then carved off Mayu's face and wore it as her own for the rest of the show. The difference was night and day.

Recently I have realized why they made her a shipper though: In a show with multiple main characters, if you just make the crush between a girl and a boy their own world with no outside influence, it would feel like it's something too isolated from the rest of the show, the shipping adds an extra layer because now one of the girls can be playful about the ship, which is more interaction between the group as a whole. Although extremely rare, this was used to a minor extent with Nana and PuriMero.
It's just a result of trying to include more characters into storylines.

Kirakira Precure A La Review 16!

Lets try to get this in before the end of the thread! And I really loved the cattiness of this episode.

Summary for the anons that need it: The girls have an afterhours meeting trying to figure out what Julio is up to; Yukari is a little distracted. Next day as Yukari heads for school her grandmother requests she does as she likes, and Yukari begins pondering. Later at the shop the girls are swamped with Yukari her usual catty self and only moving to help Akira. The girls notice something is up, and Akira moves to confront her where she asks Akira what it is to 'Like' something. Before Akira can answer Rio appears. Akira starts, but Yukari eases him as she leans in to begin teasing him. Ichika interupts the scene as her anxiety has gotten the better of her and Yukari invites everyone to tea; even Rio. At Yukari's she stuffs everyone into traditional outfits; Akira offended he can't crossdress. Inspite of Ichika's continued crudeness, Yukari presents a perfect tea, and challenges Rio to try; she says his is perfect. Later in the garden, Yukari is alone and Rio approaches her psycho analyzing her where she explains how her sister has always been ahead leaving her with nothing to achieve herself. Another later and Ichika gets a personal tea time with Yukari where she comes up with the next desset. At the shop its time for a tea collab led by Yukari and the mochi snacks. Once its over the fanclub is attacked, leaving Macaron to solo Julio. Its one sided as Julio taunts Macaron over her sister. But Macaron can't keep the ruse up anymore and begins her true tease, and begins cattily batting down each of Julios point revealing them to be lies about herself. Finally the other Cures show up and the weapon is ultimately cleansed. Afterwards Yukari and her Grandma wordlessly elude to Rio's evil tea. COOKING LESSON? STUFFING MOCHI WITH FRUIT.

I don't think there's any real correlation when it comes to favorite or not so favorite seasons. My top 6 are ST, Hugtto, Doki, GoPri, Splash Star, and Maho with Idol likely being somewhere in that tier with the way its going, but Smile, Heartcatch, and Wonderful are all just pretty good to me.

I always thought the main cast was pretty strong even before Meroron. Every episodes been really fun since Kokoro properly joined the team, even the shit budget ones. My biggest qualm with it is stalling Kokoro for an episode to introduce Kaito early for no seemingly good reason. Tanaka before Kokoro isn't so bad since he's more of a recurring character.

I do like the cast and they bounce off of each other nicely, but there are so many moments it felt like they had an idea and then took the laziest route possible. I don't know how else to describe it, it's like episode 13. The ending was a funny little curveball, but everything prior felt like eating paper. I wouldn't be calling it frustrating if I didn't think there were really good moments here and there

4 propped up Kaito hard at the expense of Uta's self-worth even in areas unrelated to being an actual idol. As an intro to a mentor character who is meant to represent an ideal for the MC or a foil/rival who was to be developed further within a reasonable timespan, that wouldn't be so bad, but Kaito is obviously neither at this point.
5 had fun moments especially since it was the Cures working a job but it's overall just ok between the lackluster fight scene and the Aoyama art. I don't think Uta and Nana do the best job carrying a SoL episode without Kokoro to help. Tanaka being around helped a little, I guess, so I would say I liked it more than 4 but not as much as 13.
