Urumi very much felt like the FMC of the manga, she could keep up with Onizuka, and while he was the brawn, she was the brain. They had great chemistry too and nice conversation dialogue. I can never see anyone else as the heroine.

My guess is old age is catching up with him. He's 58 years old. Original GTO still holds up in my opinion (at least until towards the end where it gets a little repetitive) but the sequels are where it starts to decline more obviously. I tried reading Paradise Lost to find out where Onizuka loses his virginity and it felt like a slog of repetition. Skipped around to the later chapters and man the art gets rougher.
