It would also be another factor in why bloodlines don't produce more superior dragons if there's requirements for surviving the transformation and humans who pass are rare. Gilzea's "look at me without shitting yourself" test could function as a substitute for this transformation filter since she doesn't convert her honorary members (although, Dragon Kings probably have some DG-given ability to intuit a human's bloodline potential without trying to convert them. In which case the potential Gilzea speaks of could refer to bloodline potential specifically and she's selecting humans based on that like all the other Kings)

I think the real question is, how the hell did crimson even pull off this sneak attack? Why didn't devour dragon warn the rest of the bloodline about intruders in gehenna? Eski's head is in a mysteriously blank spot on that magic circle, did it get telefragged there? Was the same thing done to devour dragon?
Decapitation is almost universally non-fatal in this series, especially for dragons, so either of them even actually dead? Or is this crimson's way of holding them and them rest of gehenna as ransom?
I don't have the answers for this and neither koba-sensei yet either, but i do know one thing for certain

Ragna has been steamrolling everyone in single combat since the invasion started.
