Not really, the emotional notes kinda feel flat because the humans haven't been relevant in ages. Two episodes right at the end weren't enough. If they wanted me to invest myself, they should've spent more time on the robot-human stuff

Honestly I wasn't expecting the ending to be like this.
It's hardly what I'll call a downer ending, but a sweet bittersweet ending. I like that humanity is still out there and maybe there is a chance for them to adapt right back to Earth
Also I love how they gave us one last glorious spergout for Yachiyo.
I loved this anime and it's only barely beated by Ninkoro for AOTS by a very small margin.
I'll happily buy that blu ray when it comes out

I liked the ending. I expected her emotional crashout to be due to anxiety about the future of the hotel if humans come back since they liked hosting alien guests and stuff. However, ultimately I'm glad it wasn't that because then the humans being unable to return would've been a bad resolution.
Instead, the way they did it it both resolved the problem with humans while maintaining and validating the current status quo. This way the viewer is able to leave the story knowing that the Gingarou Hotel will continue to operate this way and that humans survived and there's no more virus.

How could humans be unable to live on Earth anymore? The human genome shouldn't have changed that much in 500 years. Allergies can be treated and immunity can be reestablished by gradual exposure to the new environment. So, humanity *can* return to Earth, it will just take time for them to re-acclimate. The allergy is explicitly treatable, since Tomari survived. With the right drugs they can probably walk around on Earth's surface for hours at a time, like someone taking anti-histimines before going to visit a friend who has pets they are allergic to. Within a couple of generations of exposure, treatments, and maybe a tiny bit of genetic engineering they should end up with at least a sustainable population of humans that can live on Earth again.
And that assumes that ALL humans have developed the allergy, as opposed to just some fraction of them. Some people are deathly allergic to shellfish. Most people are not. Tomari could just be one of the unlucky ones.

We never learned what happened to the sea floor colonies because they all blew up a la Sealab 2021.

IMO, the best stories have a dramatically satisfying conclusion (ie. the characters resolve the conflicts they faced at the start and we have a sense of what their lives will be like in the near future), but leave you with open questions about the setting, its themes and its longer term future to daydream about. The best of those daydreams often inspire new stories.

From about 2013~ ish to 2022, I entirely stopped watching anime and nearly exclusive played games, watched toku/youtube and that was it. Because of that, I missed a ton of stuff despite being a relative oldfag in both anime and manga. I loved it. I honestly don't think I could have asked for a better one. It's not without flaws, and honestly humans becoming somehow incompatible with Earth after a few hundred years sounds like a pretty iffy excuse, but it was still a very good last episode. We got humans back, and we got to see the most interesting consequence of that, its effect on Yachiyo. Yachiyo was absolutely delightful this episode. In a way it did feel like 'just another episode' but that was kind of the point. Humans are no longer the most important thing. Yachiyo goes on. It was a good, cute episode, and very much in the spirit of the anime.

read the interview in the previous thread with the director and the ceo of Cygames Pictures. Director had never run an entire seasonal anime before, he'd just directed individual episodes in the past, and openly admits he made mistakes, which is fine.

They're very green, ironically multiple hollywood actors have tried to do similar things with their own studios after getting burned too many times by corporates, and alot of them fail for lack of talent. Cygames seems to not mind developing in-house talent which is admirable, but mistakes will be made.

Another point to this shows credit is that it does the blend of 2d and 3d incredibly well it never felt jarring. The fact that the server androids are entirely 3d never felt off and sort of added to their charm in a way.

I didn't like it as much, and some narrative choices were just odd to me. But it was still excellent anime.

I liked it, for me it didn't go to shit until episode 8. The tanuki's were fine at first. I liked Ponko helping Yachiyo find food and then making their own alcohol. But granny's funeral and the bounty hunter didn't really have anything to do with the hotel and could have been left out. Granny could have kept living. And we didn't find out what killed those two guys or why they felt the need to mention the dangerous candy and then do nothing with it.

Humanity being just a quest on their own planet was pretty cool, even the middle parts of this anime were on some level just filler that could have been slotted into other episodes so I don't think a second season would bring anything new to the table, the ending felt a bit too open ended for a 'never getting a second season' anime, but still a good 8.5/10. Overall a good anime, the transition of whacky episodic to melancholic during the the last fourth felt pretty nice, AOTS for me, but I only watched two this season so it matters a little less.

Overall, I would give the anime a 7/10.
Pretty good, but nothing really groundbreaking.
Everyone frothing over it as AOTS are just unfortunately thirsty as fuck due to what a generally underwhelming season this has been.
I actually found myself looking forward to Vigilantes and Shiunji Children more than this as the season went on.

Doorman was great. His daily routine of giving everything to that door opening, collapsing from the effort, then getting back up to practice for the next one was pretty compelling. The shampoo hat incident showed he wasn't just following programming anymore. He had developed his own sort of preferences in a way that made it seem like more of a development on his part than something that was 100% mere programming.

Honestly I wish that they had gone more in depth about the sort of "search for meaning" given their clearly delusional sort of situation, but instead we mostly just got adventures of silly robots and the extraterrestrial poop rats for most of it. Episode 11 kind of hit on that, though.

Lots of people have trust issues with Reiji over the bullshit he pulled in Kanokari (more than once.)
