>The My Hero Academia Horikoshi Kohei Exhibition was absolutely amazing The best part was the large sketches on the wall that Horikoshi drew of almost every major character with some having commentary on what is being displayed.

>Horikoshi has comments on some important moments manga panels, and the one I remember most distinctly is Kamino’s Bakugou rescue and All Might vs AFO battle where he says he is thankful to All Might and Kirishima for essentially saving My Hero Academia as a series itself. Right about the time when the first League of Villains arc happened with Stain, MHA was at a low point with pretty bad reviews on Shonen Jump. Horikoshi knew he had to do something big to change this around. He was afraid the forest training arc would fall to the same bad reviews as the previous arc, so he treated the Kamino Rescue Arc as if it was the “finale” of MHA because he knew he needed to deliver something spectacular. He knew if he messed up, then that could possibly be the end of the series.

>Thankfully, the chapter where Kirishima and co. rescue Bakugou was a chapter that had incredibly good ratings, and the follow up with All Might be AFO brought the series back from rock bottom. He says those moments were a huge turning point for the series itself. As such, he is very thankful to specifically All Might and Kirishima for essentially saving the series.

>The fourth Horikoshi colored illustration is Iida taking off his glasses and squinting, and Deku writes “I guess your eyes get tired easily when you get older” or something along those lines lmao

The sixth illustration is an older Shinso looking out a window and having most of his hand blocking the camera view lol. I unfortunately don’t remember what Deku wrote here But Shinso looks mildly pissed he’s getting his picture taken
>The seventh photo is of older Koda and Shoji with his face showing. Koda is smiling with his eyes closed and Shoji is laughing. The comment was something along the lines like “Koda said something funny, making Shoji laugh” lol
>The eight illustration is Ochako and Tsuyu on a trip somewhere and the comment was something about the sky stretching very tall behind them. It’s a super wholesome photo of the two in a grass field. Ochako wears a sun hat and Tsuyu has her hair flowing in the wind. They’re both holding their arms up as the wind is blowing. They are also both wearing long flowy skirts.
>The ninth illustration is and older Aoyama, Kaminari, and Ashido doing Kaminari’s Chargebolt pose and Deku comments that this pose is his signature fanservice pose. Aoyama is wearing bell bottom jeans, Kaminari is in the middle wearing a loose t-shirt and baggy pants, and Ashido has her hair up in a ponytail and is wearing a pink one piece dress with cute white boots.

>The tenth illustration is older Jiro and Yaoyorozu, who are walking down a hallway. They’re both making funny faces at the camera, and it looks like Jiro bought some groceries as she’s holding a paper bag with a bottle (beer?) and two packaged things. Jiro is wearing a black camise with a bunch of punk accessories and Yaoyorozu is wearing a sleeveless black top with a red cami outer and some accessories. The comment Deku makes says they were trying to look natural at the camera but ended up making weird faces lol.
>The eleventh new illustration is of an older Endeavor wearing a traditional hakama outfit and holding a can (I think?). I don’t remember what the caption was though He just looks very old but has a calm smile on his face.

Tamaki has short hair now, and Mirio has his arm around him as he does a thumbs up. Nejire is holding a lock of her own hair as it flows around her, and she’s wearing a cute blue dress. Horikoshi says it must be tiring to walk through the entire exhibition and our feet must hurt lol. So he thanks us for coming to the exhibition and says to be careful going home!

They did almost everything possible to lock down the exhibition short of confiscating the audience's items and making them sign an NDA, and even so the majority of the colored images have been leaked more or less within a few days. LMAO.

Horikoshi does further talk about whether or not Deku and Ochako's scene in Chapter 431 is supposed to be viewed as romantic or not. He answers it with a question lmao. Note that this was not shown on display at the Exhibition as it is in the My Hero Academia Horikoshi Kohei Art Exhibition pamphlet interview.

Here is the question and his answer. I am translating this as literally and as close as possible to the Japanese original text so that you can read and think about it for yourself.

Question: Chapter 431 focuses on Deku and Ochako. In My Hero Academia, there wasn't much focus on romance, was there any reason for that?

Horikoshi: Instead of wanting to portray romance in the story, I just wanted to show the contrast between Ochako and Toga with their views on love. Since romance is a very strong stimulus, as soon as you include it into the story, that's all anyone is going to talk about, so I deliberately avoided adding it to the story.

However, since the setting of the series is at school after all, it would be rather dishonest to completely ignore romance, so it was pretty hard to think of a balance.

Thankfully, since Deku was always doing other things, he was unaware of any romantic feelings, and it turned out to be a good thing for me [since Horikoshi didn't want to include romance in the main plot].

However, when Chapter 394 came around, the topics [discussed by Toga and Ochako] did touch upon that stimulus called love, so I knew that it would be strange to not follow up on that point later in the story, which is why I chose to write about it.

I never thought that romance would go well with the theme of the story of My Hero Academia, which is "to save and be saved," nor would it make sense to include it in "the story of how we all became Heroes." So that's why I decided to touch upon it in an epilogue, like a postscript of sorts.

So for me, I view it as an extension of Toga's message of love through Ochako that is conveyed to the audience, that you should live and love the way YOU, the reader, want to.
Whether you want to tie that to Deku and Ochako is up to you. At least, that's how I interpreted what he meant. It's spoken in a rather vague way, classic of Horikoshi haha.

The Deku-Bakugo relationship is EASILY one of the LEAST interesting themes in the manga. Since Im not a fujo I don’t care what Bakugo looks like and if he had died off halfway through the manga I wouldn’t have noticed. But Hori had to drag him to the very end, never seemingly content on how hyper-pivotal and crucial he was to resolving the final battle.Hori LITERALLY brought him back to life in order to defeat ALL FOR FUCKING ONE, a villain who was basically invincible and who ONLY golden age All-Might could take. Bakugo surpasses the strongest Hero in HISTORY as even peak All-Might could only double-KO him. Hori was HELL BENT on jacking off and pushing this character.

I wasn't even aware there is an art exhibition.

You're clearly just another one of those who read the manga focusing only on the action. The best thing about MHA is the characters, their interactions and development. And Bakugou is the best example of that. It's really nice to follow his gradual growth from a spoiled egotist to a selfless hero. Hori did a better job with him and Deku than Kishimoto did with Naruto and Sasuke (their brotherly bond makes no sense).

I never really cared much for Bakugo, but his character takes up such a large part of the screentime, most of it just screeching on how much he hates Deku because of his inferiority complex, and he ends up not having a good foil or even a villain. It is at its worst when All Might has moments of acknowledging him and his growth, despite only doing the bare minimum of being a decent person. It comes to a point of just making excuses for his behavior. Even the exhibition comments are doing that. People talk about Uraraka's character eventually just orbits around Deku, but Bakugo is legitimately so much worse.

He has assistants. He just doesn't let them do enough. As far as can tell they only seem to do backgrounds and a lot of panels skip those anyways. He hand writes all the text too. Even Miura let his assistants draw some character details like the feathers in Griffith's armor. Togashi simply isn't efficient. He also has a terrible drawing position judging by how Ishida described it but that might be the only way he can physically do it now.

The only thing I saw was a mention of how she was originally supposed to be a guy, so the girl from 1st movie being her was something they came up last minute and not originally planned. But I feel like it's something we knew already?

Sad thing is the snapshots were the in fact the easiest thing to leak. There's apparently TONS of early drafts with totally different lines and scrapped scenes that are not in the pamphlet, we will basically never get our hands on everything.

MHA is not a high powered setting, most heroes do not have any special durability because everyone gets one power so it's not like she's unusual in being potentially splatted (though complete invisibility is more of a defensive power than a lot of people get).

The problem is that an ending where quirks are eradicated would go against one of the major themes of the manga. Hori imported this conundrum when he copied the premise of X-Men, though it's arguably even more extreme in MHA. Mutants are an allegory for oppressed groups, but quirks are a symbol of a universal human experience.
What's particularly dumb is that the Quirk Singularity never needed to be a thing. In the very least it wasn't necessary to call attention to it or give it a name when it was meant to be exciting background flavor, not an issue for the heroes to solve. In the end the best Hori could do to deal with the singularity is a throwaway line about technological progress after he already showed us how easily it can get stalled.
