It definitely gets pretty dark but even with the darker stuff it's still played in a very much comedic way with how the characters act and respond to the situation.
I love the manga but it's not something I'd reccomend to someone looking for say, an action drama, without feeling like I'm being misleading.

The French pronunciation of it also seems closer (to me at least) to the Japanese pronunciation than the English and especially American English pronunciations of Mary, but the emphasis is on kinda how the A sound is
