I don't mind her getting an instant success and anime adaptation on her first novel but what bothers me is that she does it once and then it's basically never mentioned again after that. There's an entire episode dedicated to meeting and convincing the production team to go through with her ideas, and it logically should be a huge thing for her, but then it's treated as if nothing ever happened, we see of glimpse of the parents watching it on TV in an ending sequence and she mentions she made money from it, and that's it. I don't think we even see her writing anything else after that. I know the focus was on Kyousuke helping her out as always but with how it was set up I was expecting her work itself to be much more of an important plot point. I haven't read the LNs yet so I don't know if it's more relevant there but I doubt it

No, not really. Both are about estranged siblings repairing their relationship first and foremost. Most of the stuff that wasn't cut or simplified to save time was fairly close to the LN, as adaptations go. Still, a lot did get cut, and even the things which don't seem important by themselves end up giving different impressions of the characters if too much is cut. Out of the adapted stuff, Kirino getting her LN published got butchered the most IMO (and not because it was changed to an anime adaptation in the anime).

I found a lot of soul in this show. I appreciated each episode having a unique ED, and there's a couple tracks in there I'll play occasionally. The frequent references to otaku fandom of the time were fun. I was new and didn't get half of them when it came out. The art is cute and colorful.
It's not the absolute greatest story or characterizations every written but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy whenever I rewatch it.
