Apparently these are the most obscure TV anime I've seen: Android Ana Maico 2010, Chance Triangle Session, Generator Gawl, Getsumen to Heiki Mina, G-on Riders, Izumo (the TV version not the hentai), Kurogane Communication, Lovedol, Next Senki Ehrgeiz, Platonic Chain.
Most of them aren't particularly good but I enjoyed Gawl and Kurogane Communication somewhat. Gawl had something good going on but the ending felt rushed. I enjoyed the early parts of Kurogane when it was post-apocalyptic SoL but then they tried for some serious drama and that didn't really work. Izumo is awful but it's kind of funny bad, Ehrgeiz is just boring bad.

I didn't watch it myself but this one of the most popular shoujo anime of all time.

There are two anime I've watched but never seen a single post about here.
Flag is about a (cute) war photographer in a Central Asian conflict. She gets attached to a UN peacekeeper unit, who are testing anew weapons system, to document their activities. It's got a very nice tone, Mamoru Oshii fans would enjoy.

Summer in Andalusia is a fun movie about a cyclist racing through his hometown on his brother's wedding day. It's 45 minutes long but goes by in a flash. Incredibly well paced, with great art/animation, and a perfect soundtrack. It's a shame movies don't get as much attention when they have higher production value and usually more creativity than series.

There are a lot of oldfags still on /a/. You'll just never see them if you have out in modern anime discussion. Make a Shana thread and they'll come out of the woodwork.

But back in the early 00s (in the west, at least), there wasn't really THAT much distinction between shonen and shojou. It was pretty easy to find guys who were familiar with stuff like Fushigi Yuugi or anything by Clamp (Chobits, in particular, was massive).

I suppose that still applies to those modern chick flick anime movies everyone seems to love.

I have heard people mentioning some really obscure ecchi bullshit and literal who OVAs from god knows when but I have NEVER seen anyone talk about pic-related, not even as an obscure joke or as something they dropped.
I assume, like most things Japan, its popularity was almost entirely self-contained to Japan.
I even went to check to source material and apparently the author just put it on hiatus and gave up because there's been nothing new since 2016, and he's already released Ryūō no Oshigoto! in the meantime.
