he was supposed to be the rival character and the first OP and his initial duels and introduction build him up as such but... neither the anime or the manga writer knew what to do with him the more characters got introduced, they already had Manjoume and Ryu, to juggle.... and later Edo, not even Manjoume was handled well after a point because rivals just kept on coming.
