Meanwhile, Takoha's group is met with yet another assault from Souboutei's vile inhabitants, but our HEROES manage to brave the dangers yet again and steel themselves with resolve, to find the room with Deido's painting and stop the mad artist's plan of planetary destruction, yes, after all this time we didn't forget why we came here, destruction, destroy, DESTROY:

When I first read the manga this blindsided me hard and now rereading there was so much obvious setup that I have no idea how I didn't see it coming. I never even considered the idea despite even having thought "I wonder what happened with Makoto anyway he still hasn't made an appearance" a few chapters before. Great move from Fujita to keep Makoto's gender ambiguous before the reveal with the short hair.

I'm making the assumption that if the water takes some kind of "physical" shape it can't revert back to being water and reproduce freely again, the little leeches can grow into huge morays when falling in water but wouldn't be able to just spread indefinitely and take over the world if the prime minister had vomited the one mindjacking him into the toilet instead of the ground.

it's the eyes, the eyes threw me off so much I thought she was post-waterized kind of Deido style, but we never saw how the kids turned out when they grew up. even the plane reveal I thought she was some weird water man/human descendant from the stranded village with inherited powers or something. the sister connection makes the most sense and even her mom had a similar body type.
