Mildly this. However the author's core intention was a dark romcom as a character drama.

She was already broken beyond repair since middle school by being a workaholic overachieving self righteous tomboy. Her casual encounter with kid Reiji when she dropped her ping pong keychain was the instant she realized she may have fucked up things by rejecting Mito-kun.

She actually was obsessed with speedrunning her college years, Reiji being vulnerable and willing to die with a girl who was not his girlfriend at that moment set her obsession in motion.

She was on demon time back then, found out Chako and Reiji went to a manga cafe where nothing happened because Reiji didn't allow it to do so under the excuse of making her miserable and went to her school's authorities to rat her out. After finding out Chako was kicked out of the boarding program, she was insanely happy after seemingly taken one of the obstacles between Reiji and her out of her way. She even got ahead of herself to the point of stealing grandpa's savings and buy Reiji to his mom. However, Yuuko was more experienced, found out her real intentions and called Gen to give her a fucking lesson, and didn't take in consideration Chako was actually petty spiteful and ratted her back to the school authorities saying the truth about teacher having sex with Reiji.
Maaaaaaan. What a fucking WILD ride that manga was.
