Sort of. She didn't invent the tsundere archetype, but its undeniable that post-Evangelion a lot of tsunderes take their inspiration primarily from Asuka. This is true for a lot of characters, evangelion was very popular. There is an entire genre of characters that people refer to as 'rei clones' for a reason.

Tsunderes existed before asuka. But tsunderes written post-asuka often show a lot of asuka influence.

Asuka wasn't even the first tsundere in mecha anime. Asuka from Mazinger Z, Maria from Grendizer, Puru 2 from Gundam ZZ, just to name a few, all long predated her

The word "Tsundere" wasn't popularized until the early '00s. Their were a few Tsundere characters in like '80s anime but Asuka is like the definitional Tsundere that influenced every character within that archetype thereafter.

4.0 sadly destroyed all possibility of discussion around this character. The Shinji/Asuka dynamic in NGE has been discussed to death. In 2.0 Asuka was mostly herself but a lot more aloof, by 3.0 and 4.0 she was just bitter and angry all the time. Her backstory is so comically tragic and evil it's hard to take seriously or even discuss. Her relationship with Kensuke was too briefly shown to be anything but meme fodder. Jannies refuse to ban the Kensuke schizo. Every future thread will be like this, a gnashing of teeth and ironyposting as the character is reduced to some meme about hypergamy.
