Kirakira Precure A La Review 19!

Ichika going full dogeza was not something I expected.

Summary time: Our mysterious Frenchy has made it to town and begins hightailing it up the local mountain where she turns into a fairy and finds all the fairies gone. Back in town Ichika tries to find a melon, only to be surprised when the mysterious Frenchy compliments her on choosing a melon well. After showing off a little, the girls realize this is Ciel, the amazing sweets prodigy from France! Word gets out and a crowd forms around Ciel and she announces a temporary shop to be opened so she can show off her demonstrate her skills. Next day and the line is blocks long, but the girls make their way in where they get front row seats to Ciel's performance. Ichika is so inspired she starts begging Ciel an apprenticeship. The girls beg Ichika not to embarrass herself, but after a dogeza Ciel offers a test for Ichika. Ichika must make a dish that says "This is me." Back at the shop Ichika flails about trying to figure it out. Next day Ichika zooms to Ciel's only to walk in on Pekorin behind the counter. But that can't be right. Ciel pops up next to Ichika and invites her over to the counter to show off the experiments. Ichika gets a small taste, but the test must begin. The dessert is the gaudiest creation yet, but Ciel likes the base flavors, but Ichika needs better ratios. As Ciel goes to grab something, Ichika peaks in on Ciel's notebook for her motivation. But then Bibury attacks! Ichika demands the Kirakira back, and ultimately Whip comes out to get slammed and webbed. Ciel noticing the dead sweets runs out to see Whip and is nearly slammed by the MoTW; naturally knocked out. Whip isn't bound for long as the other Cures appear and make quick work of the MoTW. Afterwards Ichika gives Ciel a lap pillow till she's better, and then Ichika tells the other girls she's about to work even harder. COOKING LESSON?! JOKES ON YOU THEY ARE OUT AGAIN.

Ichika almost soloed this whole episode. Himari and Aoi got in a few snipes, but overall were almost as non-existent as Yukari and Akira. That being said the episode was to introduce the new fairy Ciel. I saw some anons didn't like the dogeza and I kind of get it, it was a bit extreme, especially with all the other begging she was doing, but at the same time Ciel also rightfully destroyed her both before and after the test, so there is that.

Purirun's in a weird place right now because of her memories from episodes 1-17 have been gone for 3 episodes straight. She does feel like a subtly different character. While the character growth she had from 1-17 wasn't all that extreme on paper, it's a big enough aspect of Purirun that it just being gone is jarring.
Meanwhile, Meroron is the same character we've known and loved. The catch is that the current circumstances encourage Meroron to double down on her negative traits instead of at least attempt to get along with the others. It's fun.

It's just that unlike those characters, Meroron becoming a legitimate good guy moment is detached from her becoming a Cure moment. It has to be defined by a different type of climactic moment instead.

On one hand, that would be neat, on the other hand, it would make any rewatch of the first third of the season kind of miserable. I personally don't think they'll go that route because the memory loss is what caused Purirun's ribbon color to go gray, and there's the implication that getting back the memories would restore the ribbon color. The ribbon's color could come back for a different reason though.
I think the show might make Meroron's issue permanent instead since it doesn't seem to have affected her personality directly. That depends on the true nature of the sacrifice though.

That's kinda what happens in the show "Golden Time" which the Kimi to Idol director also directed. It's a comedy/drama romance with the main theme around memory loss (written by the Toradora writer).

That said, I'm not expecting Idol to go the same exact route, recovering memories is more fitting for a mahou shoujo series for kids, the setting is already very fantastical and full of magic. It's subtly yelling that we're going to get THE moment where she remembers.

Kirakira Precure A La Review 20!

This seems to be the first Ciel episode? Ichika is trying a lot, but there's so much info dropped about Cie's old life.

Summary for the anons that need it: Everyone is at Ciel's new dessert unveiling. Ichika, Aoi, and Himari are on documentary duty, but Ichika can't stay in character. As the actual TV crew finishes up, Ichika jumps in front of everyone with her strawberry mascot outfit on and again prostrates herself. Still a no, but now the trio has to actually film Ciel's work on her way to a bee keeper on the mountain. Aoi and Himari think its not a big deal, only to immediately lose track of Ichika and Ciel. Ciel is surprised to see Ichika keep up with her; though its just barely. Still Ciel goes about picking natural fruits and showing the amazing bounty of the mountain to Ichika. Ciel lets it slip she use to live there, but Ichika is too busy keeping up to press the issue. After some more running around, Ciel and Ichika make it to the apiary; Ichika on her last leg. Its revealed Himari and Aoi have been having a nice date waiting on the other two. While Ichika recovers, a little boy comes up and shows off his honey book. Ciel finding her honey good, starts some impromptu cooking, Ichika trying to compete. Ciel naturally makes a spectacular dessert, and Ichika reveals some simple bear pancakes thanks to the little boy. And then Bibury attacked. The MoTW captures Ciel, but the Cures aren't about to have that and Whip hides Ciel. After a quick beat down of the MoTW, Ichika and Ciel sit down to review Ichika's pancakes. Ciel is stunned at how good such simple pancakes are, but they are so ordinary it downs Ichika. Ciel wonders who the Legendary cures are. COOKING DECORATIONS? BEAR PANCAKES.

I just finished HS, despite the last portion being a crazy rushed mess I still enjoyed the whole season in general, Sora is one my favorite leads and I wish they hadn't kept Kaiserin hidden for so many episodes.
