Substitute Shinigami arc is so unique compared to everything that came afterwards. Tone wise it was Kubo at his most punkish and unhinged, the humans characters actually mattered and had development, fights were street level with monster of the week type opponents, no hax bankai or convoluted powers, just Ichigo and his oversized blade. The fact that this is the entire crux of the arc really bothers me. It would've made no difference to the story if the Fullbringer arc never existed and we got a mini-arc of SOL where Ichigo deepens his relationship with Chad and the Soul Badge plotline is resolved before Rukia comes down to stab him. It sits really awkwardly between Arrancar and TYBW, and Kubo could've really used the time and space to extend TYBW in a way that maybe could've made it better written. That's my opinion though, and I don't even hate the Fullbringers; Riruka is cute, after all.

Rukia and Renji should've been the only two that come to Ichigo's aid to restore his powers. Then with Ichigo's group + Isshin you get a nice roster of fights:
Ishida vs Yukio
Orihime vs Riruka (this wouldn't have been a fight more like a talk to be honest.)
Chad vs Shishigawara
Renji vs the guy Kenpachi one shooted.
Rukia vs Jackie and she showcases her new shikai skills.
And Isshin vs Tsukishima, it would have been more emotional than fucking Byakuya.
