>guild
This is the worst trope of them all. It usually turns monsters into a resource that can be casually farmed by the average person instead of a horrible scourge on the world that is difficult to oppose even by professional military forces inside fortified cities. Adventuring parties that can face monsters in the open, or even worse, in their lairs/dungeons should be composed of extraordinary heroes, and there definitely shouldn't be enough of them to warrant creating a guild with branch offices in every city in order to manage them.

How do guilds work in a setting with proper worldbuilding? Like who decided to start the first guild, what led to that event in the past, how did the business expand and manage to be financially profitable, how does it sustain its profits, etc.

if you mutts stopped treating Japan as the grass is greener, designated Promised Land and just accepted that modern Japan is retarded, because you where the ones who created it, you would stop getting shocked when obvious things happen

a great plague or war kills off a large part of the population in an area
less human activity means monsters get more confident and encroach more
this draws adventurers to the region
adventurers come across great wealth
king attempts to confiscates the wealth to rebuild his fractured kingdom
adventurers fight back and band together to create a guild that protects the rights of adventurers to keep the spoils of their quests
paid for by membership dues

>"guilds" apparently superhumanly strong and do the state's job in protecting innocents from monsters that are numerous outside of cities
>this has no meaning with regards to state power or the lack of it
>every medieval king is a totalitarian tyrant
>uniform armies with identical, state produced weapons and armor are only used to bully weaker villagers
>no feudalism in sight
>king is all powerful and has unquestioned authority but has no feats or exploits to his name
>in fact the kingdom is always on the brink of collapse with a mismanaged border land
These things always irk me more.

The greatest strength of fantasy is autistic world building, but most (practically all) isekai reduce the setting to a cardboard copy+paste to simply house the self inserts harem of half naked uguus.

Except that one shonen where instead its "I was trained harshly by my master and now I'm in a place that took my master 3 years to beat but I was prepared by him so I beat it in 3 days and became stronger just from being shown the obvious power that I had all along but didn't know how to control yet" but you are gonna get mad when I name it.

Guilds typically function as a way to train and support members while also controlling the labor supply by hook or by crook. One of the main functions of an adventurers guild would be crushing adventurers who don't play by the rules, which could actually be a pretty important function considering how much power a single person can acquire in many settings. Guild actions would be more about protecting their business model rather than genuine concern for the populace though, like in >>280056603

A guild arises naturally from the needs of a city to deal with things that don't exist in our world. There are kobolds near the villages or trade routes, typically the town or involved parties would want to get rid of it and hire someone to do so. The Guildβ„’ mediates this step by placing associated requests on the Quest Boardβ„’. The quests can then be sorted by rankβ„’ for convenience. A quest to remove the kobolds can be C-rank while a threat that needs a legendary hero to step in could be placed as A-rank.

The closest thing to this crap irl would be wide open frontier steppes like what happened in America and Russia. And the only way to unfuck a situation with vast territories of hostiles that cannot be bargained with is to ethnically cleanse the lands.
