I had to do this after watching the new opening. This reboot truly is a love letter to the series.

All the different orbs from top to bottom:
Fire
Water
Ice
Darkness
Gold (tanuki/transformations)

Funny how the 90s opening spoiled the existence of the orbs since the very beginning and this one waited until now but spoiled all the different powers. I'm glad it wasn't like that back then, as it was always fun to see what new power would he get each time he got a new orb. But damn, this looks soooooo good. My child self was fanboying hard.

Pretty cool that Yaiba seems to have a vision of the past when he gets an orb now, too.

It always irked me how the original series didn't have an opening version for this arc and just included the orbs and octopus from the beginning while the rest was clearly about the first arc, then finally updated its opening late into the next arc, so I'm glad the remake is going all-in on it.

From our perspective as someone who already knows what's goping to happen sure, I absolutely love it, but if this was my first time discovering the series I would have prefered to keep the powers secret. The first op of the reboot is good at that, it shows a lot of things so fast you don't even notice, and if you do, you don't even know what it means if you're new to the series.

I didn't remember the original anime had a second opening, some scenes came to memory and had to check it and wow, what a blast from the past.

So far so good with the start of this second cour

Watching this show just strikes home how so few anime anymore even try to evoke a mood with the color pallet or lighting. Everything is at a flat angle, brightly and evenly lit regardless of location or time of day, and the color pallet never changes. You only get a couple shows in a season at most where the director and his team actually try to do anything visually interesting.

It's why I appreciate shows that put in effort to the visual direction. Yaiba has a lot more than just a little effort though, cause on top of the excellent framing and lighting and use of color it's loaded with sakuga. A more toned down example of good direction from this season would be Shoushimin Series. The novels its adapted from are almost all dialogue so the anime team could've just stuck to incredibly boring flat-angle shot and reverse-shot for most of the show, but they had fun with it instead. Lots of scenes where they actually use the time of day or inside vs outside lighting to good effect.

Neat.
Between both Yaiba and Dai, these high quality modern remakes of 90s shonen are really showcasing some kind of spark that shonen lost around the turn of the millennium.

Using my totally not amateurish editing skills I've glued both versions of the opening into 1, this is as close to the full opening song you will get for now.
I tried to keep it under 100mb without killing the bitrate and made the audio and visual transition as natural as possible so I hope it's acceptable. Enjoy!

Hard disagree. The direction in the new series was pretty bland when compared to the original anime, and some new things they added back then to give more impact to some scenes are way better than just lifting panels directly from the manga. The original anime also fixed some really dumb shit that made no sense, like Hyunkel's magma bath. And the forgettable music didn't help either.
Yes, Dai no Daibouken had some good fight scenes, but the Yaiba remake is a way better job overall.
