Sometimes the effects of Beyonder Items also slightly mutate compared to the sequence it should be of and might get some higher-grade traits instead. The "teleports" could also just be some kind of visual mirror effect or illusion ability. The visuals are all black, white, and gray, the BGM is overused, and most importantly, the logic is a complete mess—the cuts have destroyed any semblance of it. Klein suddenly becomes an expert who knows everything, without the scene of him viewing the original owner's memories, and with no foreshadowing of his lost memories. He recognizes all of the original owner's acquaintances, making the whole "transmigration" feel like nothing more than a token label. It's just a way to give the native Klein a power-up. Can a newcomer who hasn't read the novel really understand any of this? With such poor setup, how is most of the subsequent plot supposed to work?

The fact that the Beyonder squad inexplicably starts tailing Klein, only to let him get away, is laughable. What the hell were they thinking with this original scene? Beyonders can't even track a normal person without losing him, and they even get discovered. Screenwriter, have you not read the book? Do you think the squad is full of idiots? The BGM and the visuals even make the Beyonder squad look like the villains.

The first Tarot Club meeting is such a crucial scene, yet they even cut dialogue from it. The visuals make it look like a terrorist gathering, and the divine hall appears early just to scare the two participants. Are you treating Audrey like a fool? In a situation like that, how could she possibly get excited and immediately bring up becoming a Beyonder?

In short, it's a complete disaster. I never expected the plot to be this bad. It fails even as a niche, high-quality drama. Screenwriter, you are completely useless.

This adaptation really highlights how bad film, no matter which country it comes from, is at adapting novels. The only reason manga adapt well to anime is because manga is primarily visual.

Just look at Welcome to the Ballroom. It only looks good because it traces the manga panels as much as possible, and even there the director fucked up the pacing at key moments. Or look at Tower of God; even when it's aping SIU's early webcomic art it looks good, but when it tries to go its own way and do its own composition or add additional story it's hot garbage. Something like FLAG could never get made today because the directors and storyboarders would have a fucking stroke trying to justify the location of every shot's camera.

It's like modern anime directors have visual autism and word blindness; they don't understand what emotion is, they can't show people delivering it, and they are unable to come up with creative shots to save their fucking lives. It really makes me sad for upcoming adaptations about some real good light novels like Rebuild World or Space Mercenary. It's just going to be so bungled and soulless, even if they copy the manga adaptations that already cut out 90% of the characters' internal monologues.

Having not watched the episode, I am genuinely cackling at the animeonlies getting mindfucked by the pacing and exposition catered to novel readers.

Unironically this is my main takeaway from this.
People who read the novel can fill in the blanks of what the fuck is happening and what every scene is supposed to reference since they had a slow paced 40 chapter explanation about everything that was jampacked in the 1st episode

But literally anyone else who walks into the series knowing nothing are going to just be extremely confused about what in the fuck just happened.
And this is not even a matter of "oh its mysteries you WILL want to keep watching to unfold whats going on" because literally nothing made sense, there's not even a foundation on where to being.
2 episodes in and the only 2 characters that had even a minor bit of exposition about them were the cop guy and the mc, everyone else could very well be classified as npcs.

The visuals were for the most part cool but the camera work was so fucking overdone it was almost nauseating how you couldn't even try to focus on understand what was happening since the camera was perpetually moving around, changing angles, showing mystical shit happening it was so fucking hard trying to keep up with reading the subtitles and checking out what was going in the scene.
As people said, the 2 first episodes feel like an actual ad for the novel. A vomit inducing tiktok compilation at 1.5x showing references and characters that only novel readers will give a fuck about.
