No surprise it completely fucked up Kudo.
Felt kinda weird to me that she committed suicide, too. It was alluded to often enough, but she never came across like a person who'd do that to me. Even with the "I never want this to end" thing.
But I guess that was the point, since we see it from Kudo's perspective and he himself admits he didn't understand her at all, either.
They also managed to somehow make the ending both sad and happy.

This absolute madwoman did a coin flip hoping to pull an Endless Eight in Generic Terra
Lesson of the show:
Don't stick your dick in crazy.
If people die their consciousnesses goes to Generic Terra. Reiko B wasn't sure if she wanted to live the rest of her life with Kudo, or relive the summer she had with him, so she took rando pills and let the drugs decide whether she live or die? This bitch is WHACK.

>>280061764The opening is a banger, the first episode was really good. After that it was pretty underwhelming. The praised ending didn't make any sense to me. >>280060593 (OP)Good ending, I'm gonna miss this show. I like how they handled Reiko B's suicide a lot, I feel like they give us enough info to think about it, just like Kudou could, but not enough to be sure as to why. A good show about learning to move on and becoming your own person, paired with a comfy atmosphere and good soundtrack. Production wise it was cheap which is my biggest problem with it but still a fun show and I'm gonna miss it.

Just what the fuck was that ending? Too happy for my taste.
Hope the manga ends in a tragedy, with Kudou choosing to die following Kujirai B while Reiko becomes her own person and finally can leave Kudou behind and buried below Kowloon's ruins.
So what is the generic terra and why can it make a whole ghost city out of people's regrets?
Maybe I was speedwatching too much (kinda zone out whenever the gays are on screen) but I don't remember if they explained it.
>>280060593 (OP)Excellent show. I was a bit worried when they started to explain how everything works towards the end, but it ultimately came through thanks to the thematic elements. It's great that everyone ultimately got a pretty good ending.

>>280060593 (OP)So Kudo drove the original Reiko into suicide by proposing to her because she absolutely hates change? That's fucked up.
And the new Reiko isn't just a memory of Kudo but a clone with her own self? Was she made in a lab by Yulong?
And for people who can't see the New Kawloon people who can look like maniacs crawling in the rubble of the demolished city?

>>280061016AOTS for me. So refreshing to experience a mature story instead of the usual teenage nonsense. 4chan isn't the audience for this type of show, so I didn't expect much discussion here.
this has been a pretty dogshit season but Kowloon has been very entertaining, it dropped a bit in the middle imo but the ending was fantastic - everything i guessed near the start was completly off the mark so it was nice to be surprised (Reiko is also literal perfection).

>>280065869>>280065895this is proof that kujirai b didn't commit suicide, she took the pills to self induce amnesia. that was the "gamble with your life" she took. I dunno how people see it as her literally committing suicide

>>280067338>beautiful animationI think you mean art style. Characters were generally really stiff in this and the running animations in the finale were laughable.
>>280069577Name one (1) bad thing about Kowloon besides the multiple gay sex scenes early on.
>>280063159>>280066611If I understand correctly, here's what we learned this episode:
Kowloon 3.0 was never Kudo's dream, but an amalgamation of the dreams of everyone who entered the ruins with regrets. Generic Terra substitutes people who aren't participating in the collective hallucination with the player's perception of them. If the real person enters, it makes their player-created clone disappear to resolve the contradiction.
We were led to believe 3.0 was Kudo's hallucination alone, and Rekopon was an imperfect recreation from his memory of Kujirai B (because he never understood her), but what really happened was the following:
Kujirai B entered 3.0 with regrets, played a fake persona, met Kudo, got proposed to, panicked (because marrying him would eventually expose her real self), and gambled on shady drugs with a 50/50 chance of either killing her or starting an Endless Eight style time loop. Endless Eight won, so Generic Terra created Rekopon, who is really Kujirai B's body and real personality, but without her memories before the 31s of August, because remembering his proposal would end the time loop.
The stuff about becoming her absolute self was just what she needed to tell herself to gain the courage to leave 3.0 regardless of the consequences.

In the end what was Generic Terra? If everything was because of Kudo's regret why scramble the story with the Zirconians and scifi shit? It could have been a nice mystery romance instead of that jumbled up shit. The vibes were fine though.
>>280072553Thought you were going to say bend her over her desk and spank her but honestly that’s a good solution to correct the problem too
That ending was kind of paint by the numbers.
The show sets up all these mysteries and then they just tell you the revelations and the characters are like "oh ok, it's like that". Nobody really gets shook or does anything, Kudo especially is muted. And then everybody just arrives to the same conclusion, "we should just move on" or "yeah of course i'm a unique person", which is fine.

Some things hit, some things missed, but at least it tried to say something and be genuine. OP was great, Reko was sexo, and so forth.
Sex with Reiko in a stiflingly hot and airless apartment with freshly painted walls and the fumes make us lightheaded as we bang.
Sex with Reiko in a grimy alleyway behind a restaurant.
Sex with Reiko in her apartment with the window open so all her neighbors can hear.
Sex with Reiko in the shower with her boobs pressed up against the door.
Blasting rope all over Reiko's face after a slow and sensual blowjob and she was wearing the glasses and they never seem to get clean afterward.
Pretending to mess with computer cables at work under Reiko's desk and shoving my face in her sweaty crotch to suffocate in her muff.
Lying naked on a tenement rooftop with Reiko pressed against me, both so sweaty our bodies glisten in the summer sun.
>>280064552I really dig his performance as a pathetic man here, he should do this more often
>>280078508Reiko should have more scenes like this not just vanilla missionary
>>280060593 (OP)This anime is so infuriating. It's rushed to hell but instead of actually focusing on the parts that matter like Kudo and Reiko's relationship, they focus entirely on the fags. They turned a cute loli into a literal troon. I sat through this bullshit and I'm still underwhelmed, it never got good. The last two episodes drop a major plot twist and it just doesn't fucking matter, nothing happens except a predictable anime original ending.
>>280073146I feel like I've been seeing way more calls on this board to discipline girls via spanking ever since this week's episode of BnHA Vigilantes where a dad punches his daughter straight in the ovaries then electrocutes her.
>>280069040Accept change and live on. There's better things ahead. The old dude remarrying made me really happy.
>>280061943It's a complete non-issue to me, but I suspect probably around 80-90% of people having such strong reactions to it is simply due to fatigue of having felt it being inorganically forced into western media the last 10 years or so.
Even though it was fine in this story and simply the author doing her thing, people who probably otherwise wouldn't care have developed a strong visceral reaction even in situations where they probably shouldn't.
The pendulum has swung too hard to the point where people are seeing ghosts now even in anime.
So now these things need time to cool off and heal again and go back to normal where people can just accept organic characters and relationships of those types in all fiction imo.
>>280062230Asian women tend hold up extremely well physically at that age desu
Christmas cake may be a fine meme for people living in their own cultures, but if you're comparing to other cultures it's almost magical how different the aging process is.
In my experience, younger asian women almost go out of their way to make themselves look older(for some reason), while they quickly switch up to the exact opposite and there's a like a 'aging-purgatory' where it becomes difficult to accurately gauge their ages consistently for quite a while.
(part of this is effort/beauty 'tech' based as well)
>>280062620She didn't want to say no, she wanted to go out at what she perceived would be the peak moment.
At least that's what I got from it.
>>280080561It wasn't a big enough deal to make me drop it but I didn't like any of their scenes and it dragged down the rating for me. And yet I was able to watch something like Banana Fish no problem. I think it's because we get GAY SEX dumped on us when we hardly knew the characters and it took focus away from the romance we cared about.
>>280063159Earlier on in the show they talked a lot about 'the project' and it seemed their goal was to create perfect physical(real) copies.
They cloned that dog at one point.
I think they failed the project, but had the conditions for it to succeed once(with Reiko B).
She also wasn't supposed to have the beauty mark, but something was different about her.
They seemed to lay down a lot of the ground work for that early, but didn't specifically elaborate on all the technical details in the end(which is fine to me).
>>280080745there barely is any romance between the leads, how anyone could care about that relationship is a mystery to me. i wouldn't even classify what was presented in this anime as a romance. there were several episodes where they barely even talked to each other
>>280062599if you live long enough you'll meet plenty of people who actively sabotage their own happiness because they don't think they deserve it. you may even end up as one of them
>>280065260In my experience women writers tend to go for more mature character concepts and interactions. And on average they're more likely to include gay characters.
I have no particular interest in gay relationships personally, but I find women authors/mangakas tend to write interesting characters and scenarios.
So I try to seek out Josei/Seinen or LNs written by women(in the sense that I'm more likely to pick something up if I notice).
I don't know why, but I just have a heavy bias in that sense from noticing that pattern.
>>280080811The entire anime is centered around their relationship.
>>280080914the anime is centered around the mysteries of the town, not their relationship. the relationship is part of it, but after the first episode any of their interactions had her wondering "was Reiko B like this?"
>>280070768It's a scifi future with cloning and the ability to completely a realistically change your appearance.
You might even say one of the themes in the story is that it's a 'post-fake' world.
Using today's standards of plastic surgery probably isn't the best way to perceive the intention of the story imo.
>>280072893>If everything was because of Kudo's regret why scramble the story with the Zirconians and scifi shit? The company was experimenting with cloning(the dog), Zirconians etc. They had much bigger plans, but they were failing to see results, and also had their internal issues.
I think the ending was an example of something like an accidental or unintentional 'success' of what they were aiming for. Whether the company knows or not, I don't know.
>>280077152Anime's tend to exist to get people to purchase manga and/or LNs though.
So that's par for the course I suppose.
>>280080914NTA but I think this show has a similar problem that some romance shows do where the main girl character and romance is set up in the beginning so then when it goes to focus on other stuff and other characters the main relationship or girl/girl can feel left out
>>280080858Very true.
Another reason why I have a bias towards manga/LN written by women. I find they're more likely on average to capture very flawed and negative(but realistic) character dynamics.
A lot of people do seem to get turned off by these things though too.
I guess everyone has different reasons and expectations for what they want out of the fiction they consume.
>>280070309but 3.0 kowloon only happened after her death
>>280081365Its a big reason why you see girl only yuri shows or LN where the main character is the only one the same age as all the girls or if a guy the main characters age is introduced he is already shown to have a fiancé or his own love interest who is introduced at the same time. People don't want to be reminded of the soul crushing reality that there's always a more impress man and that the possibility that if someone is simply around someone else they might cheat and cheating rates are higher then ever. I don't know the reasons exactly but like you said women do seem to be more ok with this fact
>>280066611>but a clone with her own self?dunno why people keep saying this.
we have seen that you can remove generics from kowloon as long as they became their own true self. like the ear rings, the vest, and success.
none of those were clones, they were just given an actual meaning that went beyond the memory they were spawned from.
Trash anime with gay sex scenes
>>280081285other than the word romance being in the title, i don't see a reason why this story should be labeled as a romance. the biggest romance we see in the show is between the intersex guy miyuki and the bartender gwen
it's a mystery story where all the characters' conflict mostly deal with identity. reiko being a generic of reiko b, miyuki with being the adopted son of a guy he hates, youmei with resorting to plastic surgery to differentiate herself from her mother, xiaohei with enjoying pretty feminine clothes but no longer having the right body for it. i guess kudo doesn't deal with identity as much as getting over reiko b
>>280081365>I find they're more likely on average to capture very flawed and negative(but realistic) character dynamics.Women just love playing the victim, because it lets them dodge taking accountability for their actions if they pretend they were never in control of the situation. Even the fictional characters they create tend to have this character trait all the time.
>>280081538That reminds of of One Pieces original title being Romance Dawn but being changed later. I assumed its for that reason of people not wanting to mistake that as a romance series.

>>280061150Imagine getting filtered by that
I thought the ending was really nice. Much better than most original anime endings.
I took this as kujira b was always real but her regret was not living through to the end of summer so she would constantly repeat and repeat and repeat what kudo wanted because she never chose for herself.
I could be wrong but I felt that was the twist. She didn't want things to change. I think the amnesia theory also works here that the other anon wrote. Kudo and kujira b both had regrets in Kowloon but later they both met up again. I thought this because while we hear kudo's side of the story that he killed her we didn't really get anything of her side. Kudo perhaps thought he killed her when she went to the hospital and never came out until Kowloon was destroyed.
I rather like the open interpretation you can pull from this because several endings are possible
>>280061311That's kind of retarded though. Nobody knows enough about anyone else to just "reconstruct" them from memory. Not even mothers with small children, hell, I don't even think anyone would be able to faithfully recreate themselves. He finds true love by accident, breaks up with Gwen for the sake of revenge, then when that revenge is untenable he no longer has a reason to be the snake ceo and gives up his identity to be with his boyfriend. Miyuki forsakes his position and leaves Kowloon for his own sake, Reiko does the same I guess. Though he doesn't influence her like Xiaohei and Yaomay do because she doesn't know any of this

>>280068391To me, Kowloon was more of an attempt to make something of a fable than trying to establish a technlogically accurate or believable setting. The scifi stuff was more or less just a modernized version of the magical plot device in fantasy that allows the story to unfold, as it's often the case with contemporary hack writers when they dabble into the genre.
The ending was a bit rushed, wasn't it? Or at least it felt that way.
It was a great show regardless, it's nice to see a show that doesn't spoonfeed you much but only gives you crumbs of information and attempts to make you try and figure out what's really going on. It's quite a rarity in anime these days, isn't it? I wouldn't mind an S2 but I suppose there's nothing to base it on seeing how even Kudo decided to move on.
Also why did OG Reiko commit suicide? Someone mentioned it's because she didn't want to summer to end. Is this true? If yes then that's such a stupid reason to commit suicide lmao
>>280072893The purpose of GT was actually explained ,though. The Hebinuma group was offering people "immortality" by A. Uploading their entire personalities and memories into that flying computer thing B. Cloning them and C. Dowloading those memories into the new cloned bodies, i.e. Zirconians, which might have referred to either the virtual simulation of the people's memories or the finalized clone with the downloaded memories. The problem was that the computer thing never actually worked until it "resonated" with Kudo's regrets and other people with similar feelings from Kowloon. Now, you may ask why choose the Kowloon city to perform their tests intead of controlled lab environment, right? And the answer is, because there wouldn't be a story that takes place entirely within this unique setting otherwise.

>>280080561Fatigue and oversensitivity may be a factor for some people, but the main issue is really HOW it is handled and I disagree that it was "fine in this story". People watch anime with catboys and shit all the time without much fuss, I don't see many people dropping Re:Zero because of Felix for example. It's when you get this Western flavor of "i'd love you even if you presented as a woman" (which actually seems inorganic because Gwen is supposed to be gay but that takes a back seat to an acceptance/ love is love message) that it becomes an issue. It doesn't help that these are side characters distracting from the main plot and romance in scenes that are really not adding anything substantive.
Lazarus had a similar issue when making the tranny and the black guy argue about their victimhood in the most blunt and annoying way possible. Most didn't drop the show when Doug was introduced, they dropped it when he took time to rant about how oppressed he was. This stuff reeks of preachy Western moral influence in the writing and that's what people are actually tired of, not homos generally.

Paint by numbers anime diverging ending. Kudo did nothing wrong except simp (he was enthralled by the original) and propose marriage. She was a fucking weirdo and decided to take some pills like some BPD whore... because she was afraid of getting close to people or... something???
Kowloon IRL is where criminals, poor people, etc went or were born into by circumstance.. it was way more cramped than what is shown in this piece of media that glorifies it - which is kinda dystopian cyberpunk/WEF -- "you will live in a space of 2 tatami and be happy" promo. Fuck that shit. Lesson: Don't propose to people (even your coworkers) in a ghetto where people run to live to escape from their problems. Was Kudo supposed to find her mid overdose??? The real romance was the sexy BPD women we learned to identify & avoid along the way...
>>280080811>>280080951>how anyone could care about that relationship is a mystery to mePeople probably care because the anime is called Kowloon Generic Romance and they are the main characters. The anime is centered around them and all the mysteries of the town were ultimately created by Kudo's feelings about that romance, they would not exist without it.
>>280081268I know but to elaborate further, the anime is very exposition heavy in the sense that it keeps giving you small bites every episode, which is usually very cheap writing and only works well as long as the payoff is good. The ending just falls flat on it's face so hard it gives nosebleed.

Sure, if it was meant to be the the og walled city then it's not an accurate representation.
Also, it's the future and presumably post-China reclamation it's safe to assume crime in general would be much lower under a much more authoritarian government. So it's not necessarily safe to assume that it would just revert to its old ways. Especially since the new version is voluntary and driven by nostalgia rather than people being forced to live there by circumstance like the real og walled city.

HK was still owned by the UK during the time of the real walled city existed, and also when it was torn down. So what was up with generic Dr. Wong's office behind empty in the previous episode? At first I thought it was to say that Kudo never went to his office and so would have no idea what it'd look like inside, which also meant that Miyuki would have no ability to re-experience his past in generic Kowloon and no more reason to be there.
But the interior of the office was also presented in the exact same way as the living spaces of generic Gwen and Chen after they got overwritten. So maybe it was supposed to mean that at some point Dr. Wong did enter generic Kowloon, didn't like what he saw, and left having resolved his regrets regarding the place.

But it's fine if you don't like it though.
I just don't think this is meant or intended to be some sort of 'modern' type of work trying to make a statement.
Most likely case is she's on the fujo-spectrum, which has existed forever and is not a political or modern thing.
>>280116428Yeah, I was just generalizing overall and didn't mean to imply anything specific about her or her work.
Just that if she went along with something a publisher would push on her while being uncomfortable, I would not blame her at all.
But no reason to think that is the case here though with her work, I agree.
Just a sort of meta-take on the industry, since I think people shit on artists too easily without fully understanding the context.
>>280117175Even if that were true, and I'm not necessarily saying it is...having something you find 'disgusting' in a work of fiction shouldn't normally be sufficient to completely reject it.
If anything it's common and normal part of a balanced story. Berserk is full of absolutely disgusting things, but it's still easily one of the GOAT.
For example, I find Miyuki's tongue completely disgusting on a pretty visceral level.
But that doesn't make it a a bad story, or make me want to drop it.
>>280109439>I think they developed that enough. She has some complex about finishing things at what she perceives as 'the peak'.I'm the guy you're replying to.
So the idea is the original Reiko Kujirai probably had a difficult life, ran to Kowloon and met the naive Kudo. She had a past & possible baggage and she was afraid of change as well as getting close to people? Gwen remarked on her that she had "the scent of death" and "it was hard to know what she was thinking" (both Kudo & Gwen).
I mean, I can almost buy that but it's very dramatic. Does the mangaka give Reiko a compelling backstory like Maomay,
Miyuki Hebinuma, etc... that would explain this behavior? E.g. Maomay ran from being a celebrity because she felt like everything in her life was being decided for her. Miyuki was adopted by the "baddies" so his mother could receive treatment but it was in vain anyhow, plus he's a hermaphrodite (poor genetics, maybe that's why his mother died?)... Come to think of it Xiaohei was actually a dude but wanted to live as a little Chinese girl forever.
I can accept that for why Reiko did her gambit (was it a 100% suicide attempt or did she actually have a cold or want to get high off the recalled Hebinuma cold pills, essentially rolling the dice of her fate?) if there is some back story into why, that'd be cool.
My problem is Kudo didn't do anything wrong except be really naive (we see a roll reversal compared to the past with Reiko Kujirai B and the nu-one generated from Kudo / Gene Terra / whatever -- the modern day Kudo adopts old Reiko and nu-Reiko is the naive one) with his marriage proposal and be utterly enthralled with his sexy smoking hag coworker who showed him the ropes of the city, work, how to enjoy cigarettes, etc... it all basically boils down to a problem in communication.
Why did we waste so many episodes on Gene Terra and the Generics and stuff that didn't even matter? Kudo controls Gene Terra because it picked him... or something?
>>280128254Shiiiit, looks like the real Anon just entered Third Kowloon
>>280062599>No surprise it completely fucked up Kudo.No shit. Kudo Hajime did nothing wrong. Was he eager & naive? He came to Kowloon for work, yes? Not because he was running away from some problem... so he was probably a very normal dude compared to the rest of the residents as we see in flashbacks.
>Felt kinda weird to me that she committed suicide, too. It was alluded to often enough, but she never came across like a person who'd do that to me. Even with the "I never want this to end" thing.I don't get that. Reiko is afraid to get close to people or intimate with them where they know the "real" her, she's got baggage... the city is gonna be demolished soon in the Fall but some young strapping lad proposed to you. What specifically in her backstory caused her to do this?
Did she 100% intend to die or was it more of a 50/50 thing? She says "Because I am a coward" to the old woman in ep13... but like, she's experiencing a communication problem. If she ran to Kowloon because she killed people or whatever tragic backstory, just tell Kudo for God's sake. Killing yourself and leaving him alone is a huge mindfuck. He didn't deserve any of that.
>>280130118>Did she 100% intend to die or was it more of a 50/50 thing? She took the whole bag of drugs. It's not specifically mentioned if she wanted to die, but she was warned of the danger. If she had just wanted to gamble, only one pill would have been enough.
I think us not knowing for sure and having to make random guesses is the point though.
Because Kudo did not know and had to guess, which is what fucked him up.
He never knew the real Kujirai B and neither did we.
can we agree that jun mayuzuki needs more vitamin d?
There should've been more cute moments like this
>>280130118>If she ran to KowloonI always had the impression that like Kudo, she just got relocated there as part of her job and she didn't even want to be there at first, given them both being Japanese and how Kudo and Rekopon's relationship paralleled Kujirai B and Kudo's at first.
>>280129852>Why did we waste so many episodes on Gene Terra and the Generics and stuff that didn't even matter? Kudo controls Gene Terra because it picked him... or something?Maybe the mangaka came up with all the character ideas first and then just used the very soft scifi stuff as a some sort of post-hoc justification to try to explore her character ideas.
I think some attempts are made at least. And maybe as an anime only I'm not seeing the full picture.
And also since it's an anime original ending, maybe she has more up her sleeve that will be revealed in the manga eventually.
The real villain was Kujirai B. She got a hot young boyfriend and she goes off and kills herself for no reason (blah blah, depression isn't an excuse). Fuck taht bitch.
>>280129785>having something you find 'disgusting' in a work of fiction shouldn't normally be sufficient to completely reject it.>Berserk is full of absolutely disgusting things, but it's still easily one of the GOAT.You are in the story for the romance between the woman and the man. Berserk isn't a love story that wants to make you feel cozy with romance or aroused seeing the females. Completely different settings. To adress your point. You are correct on that disgust itself shouldn't be enough to make you quit a show. The breach of trust against the viewer should. In this supposed romance show faggots are placed in it and you are supposed to be joyful instead of disgusted? Fuck off. Let it be known that it took 20 years for faggots to put themselves in close proximity to the front of society's mind and being pushed into everything.

I do sort of empathize with wanting
>to make you feel cozy with romance or aroused seeing the femalesAnd then getting something that is not that, and having bother you. I don't feel the same way, but I can at least try to imagine why you don't like having it unexpectedly pop up.

>>280133238>And also since it's an anime original ending, maybe she has more up her sleeve that will be revealed in the manga eventually. Is anyone interested enough in it to do weekly dump threads of the manga? That would be the clear sign that people liked the anime - that they're willing to explore the mango. I hope the mangaka has a clear direction they want to go in that is meaningful and not as trite as the sci-fi filler we got in the anime. I'm not trashing it, I'm just criticizing what I saw in the anime.
>>280135737>>Wwwaaahhh not this mature!!!The story as portrayed in the anime is "mature" in terms of SOME actions & consequences to a certain degree. However, homosexual sex, two transsexuals (Miyuki [hermaphrodite] & Xiaohei [little guy being a girl]), ODing because you have some mental issues and all the sci-fi blabber isn't inherently mature. Kudo wanting to live in a simulacrum of Kowloon is "mature" arguably? Does Kudo have to make Reko take the pills for every "loop" assuming the place does loop? Calm down, we're just talking about the anime.
I love mysteries but all the Gene Terra, Generics, etc shit were nothingburgers. If they cut out Miyuki (red herring in anime, I like Gwen) and focused more on other stuff I feel like that would have led to better story for the anime.
Kudo should have hooked up with Yaomay. Is that the good ending?
