The opening is a banger, the first episode was really good. After that it was pretty underwhelming. The praised ending didn't make any sense to me. Generic Terra got destroyed, Rekopon's physical form wasn't recognized earlier when she tried to exit, now after a Kudo's epiphany she's suddenly real. 6/10

Good ending, I'm gonna miss this show. I like how they handled Reiko B's suicide a lot, I feel like they give us enough info to think about it, just like Kudou could, but not enough to be sure as to why. A good show about learning to move on and becoming your own person, paired with a comfy atmosphere and good soundtrack. Production wise it was cheap which is my biggest problem with it but still a fun show and I'm gonna miss it.

If I understand correctly, here's what we learned this episode:
Kowloon 3.0 was never Kudo's dream, but an amalgamation of the dreams of everyone who entered the ruins with regrets. Generic Terra substitutes people who aren't participating in the collective hallucination with the player's perception of them. If the real person enters, it makes their player-created clone disappear to resolve the contradiction.
We were led to believe 3.0 was Kudo's hallucination alone, and Rekopon was an imperfect recreation from his memory of Kujirai B (because he never understood her), but what really happened was the following:
Kujirai B entered 3.0 with regrets, played a fake persona, met Kudo, got proposed to, panicked (because marrying him would eventually expose her real self), and gambled on shady drugs with a 50/50 chance of either killing her or starting an Endless Eight style time loop. Endless Eight won, so Generic Terra created Rekopon, who is really Kujirai B's body and real personality, but without her memories before the 31s of August, because remembering his proposal would end the time loop.
The stuff about becoming her absolute self was just what she needed to tell herself to gain the courage to leave 3.0 regardless of the consequences.

The show sets up all these mysteries and then they just tell you the revelations and the characters are like "oh ok, it's like that". Nobody really gets shook or does anything, Kudo especially is muted. And then everybody just arrives to the same conclusion, "we should just move on" or "yeah of course i'm a unique person", which is fine.

It's a complete non-issue to me, but I suspect probably around 80-90% of people having such strong reactions to it is simply due to fatigue of having felt it being inorganically forced into western media the last 10 years or so.

In my experience women writers tend to go for more mature character concepts and interactions. And on average they're more likely to include gay characters.
I have no particular interest in gay relationships personally, but I find women authors/mangakas tend to write interesting characters and scenarios.
So I try to seek out Josei/Seinen or LNs written by women(in the sense that I'm more likely to pick something up if I notice).
I don't know why, but I just have a heavy bias in that sense from noticing that pattern.

The company was experimenting with cloning(the dog), Zirconians etc. They had much bigger plans, but they were failing to see results, and also had their internal issues.
I think the ending was an example of something like an accidental or unintentional 'success' of what they were aiming for. Whether the company knows or not, I don't know.

I took this as kujira b was always real but her regret was not living through to the end of summer so she would constantly repeat and repeat and repeat what kudo wanted because she never chose for herself.
I could be wrong but I felt that was the twist. She didn't want things to change. I think the amnesia theory also works here that the other anon wrote. Kudo and kujira b both had regrets in Kowloon but later they both met up again. I thought this because while we hear kudo's side of the story that he killed her we didn't really get anything of her side. Kudo perhaps thought he killed her when she went to the hospital and never came out until Kowloon was destroyed.
I rather like the open interpretation you can pull from this because several endings are possible

To me, Kowloon was more of an attempt to make something of a fable than trying to establish a technlogically accurate or believable setting. The scifi stuff was more or less just a modernized version of the magical plot device in fantasy that allows the story to unfold, as it's often the case with contemporary hack writers when they dabble into the genre.

The ending was a bit rushed, wasn't it? Or at least it felt that way.
It was a great show regardless, it's nice to see a show that doesn't spoonfeed you much but only gives you crumbs of information and attempts to make you try and figure out what's really going on. It's quite a rarity in anime these days, isn't it? I wouldn't mind an S2 but I suppose there's nothing to base it on seeing how even Kudo decided to move on.

The purpose of GT was actually explained ,though. The Hebinuma group was offering people "immortality" by A. Uploading their entire personalities and memories into that flying computer thing B. Cloning them and C. Fatigue and oversensitivity may be a factor for some people, but the main issue is really HOW it is handled and I disagree that it was "fine in this story". People watch anime with catboys and shit all the time without much fuss, I don't see many people dropping Re:Zero because of Felix for example. It's when you get this Western flavor of "i'd love you even if you presented as a woman" (which actually seems inorganic because Gwen is supposed to be gay but that takes a back seat to an acceptance/ love is love message) that it becomes an issue. Sure, if it was meant to be the the og walled city then it's not an accurate representation.
Also, it's the future and presumably post-China reclamation it's safe to assume crime in general would be much lower under a much more authoritarian government. So it's not necessarily safe to assume that it would just revert to its old ways. So what was up with generic Dr. Wong's office behind empty in the previous episode? At first I thought it was to say that Kudo never went to his office and so would have no idea what it'd look like inside, which also meant that Miyuki would have no ability to re-experience his past in generic Kowloon and no more reason to be there.
But the interior of the office was also presented in the exact same way as the living spaces of generic Gwen and Chen after they got overwritten. So maybe it was supposed to mean that at some point Dr. Wong did enter generic Kowloon, didn't like what he saw, and left having resolved his regrets regarding the place.

So the idea is the original Reiko Kujirai probably had a difficult life, ran to Kowloon and met the naive Kudo. She had a past & possible baggage and she was afraid of change as well as getting close to people? Gwen remarked on her that she had "the scent of death" and "it was hard to know what she was thinking" (both Kudo & Gwen).
I mean, I can almost buy that but it's very dramatic. Does the mangaka give Reiko a compelling backstory like Maomay,
Miyuki Hebinuma, etc... that would explain this behavior? E.g. Maomay ran from being a celebrity because she felt like everything in her life was being decided for her. Miyuki was adopted by the "baddies" so his mother could receive treatment but it was in vain anyhow, plus he's a hermaphrodite (poor genetics, maybe that's why his mother died?)... Come to think of it Xiaohei was actually a dude but wanted to live as a little Chinese girl forever.

I can accept that for why Reiko did her gambit (was it a 100% suicide attempt or did she actually have a cold or want to get high off the recalled Hebinuma cold pills, essentially rolling the dice of her fate?) if there is some back story into why, that'd be cool.

My problem is Kudo didn't do anything wrong except be really naive (we see a roll reversal compared to the past with Reiko Kujirai B and the nu-one generated from Kudo / Gene Terra / whatever -- the modern day Kudo adopts old Reiko and nu-Reiko is the naive one) with his marriage proposal and be utterly enthralled with his sexy smoking hag coworker who showed him the ropes of the city, work, how to enjoy cigarettes, etc... it all basically boils down to a problem in communication.

Maybe the mangaka came up with all the character ideas first and then just used the very soft scifi stuff as a some sort of post-hoc justification to try to explore her character ideas.

Is anyone interested enough in it to do weekly dump threads of the manga? That would be the clear sign that people liked the anime - that they're willing to explore the mango. The story as portrayed in the anime is "mature" in terms of SOME actions & consequences to a certain degree.
