Rin-ne Story Time
Alright, it is Saturday and I am gonna post the fifteenth volume of Rin-ne. Feel free to react or comment on any panel, though I appreciate if image replies are not used during the dump. Feel free to discuss anything related to Rin-ne after the dump.

Rin-ne is Rumiko Takahashi's return to comedy after Inuyasha. Rin-ne is VIZ's localized title, presumably chosen to assist in pronunciation. The original title is ๅขƒ็•ŒใฎRINNE (Kyokai/Kyoukai no Rinne) which means Rinne of the Boundary. While it is not a megahit like some of her other huge series, I highly recommend it to fans of Ranma 1/2 and Urusei Yatsura though it is obviously different.

Previous thread: >>279987866

I will be using scans of the official VIZ localization. Be aware that some of the larger images may have been edited to be lower quality due to image size limits.

>ๅฃบ
which means... well it means lots of things, but it's an antique fair
it means "jar" or "vase"
then behind that is ้‡‘ใƒข at least it looks like ใƒข
jisho suggests that this for ้‡‘ใƒขใƒผใƒซ which is for the gold braid on a military officer's uniform
and then on the right, at the front is
>ไป•ๆŽ›ใƒป็ฝ
which is "device, mechanisms, gadgets" and "traps"
็ซ่–ฌ "gundpowder" is next to the goofy statue (the name escapes me)
the "weapons" sign is above the girl

the second panel has another sign for gundpowder on the left, and explosive-something
next to rokumon's tail is ็ญ’ which means a lot of things but going by the other signs i think "gun barrel", "gun, cannon" would make the most sense

>Trailer Trash!
I admit it's quite uncanny to see very distinctly American slang in a comic that's supposed to take place in Japan. Like, I'm reasonably certain they don't have trailer parks over there.

Original title was ๅฝใ‚Šใฎใ‚ซใƒƒใƒ—ใƒซ. ใ‚ซใƒƒใƒ—ใƒซ (kappuru) is a loanword from the English "couple".

Also, Furinkan notes that: "A double issue means Shonen Sunday did not run an issue the following week, usually due to a holiday." So, hence why next chapter's dates are a week further out.

Yeah. Localization to this effect sometimes works well and you don't even notice it. Other times, it really doesn't work well at all. I do think VIZ and localizers in general have gotten better about avoiding too culturally specific localizations, but it will always be a mixed bag. Especially when series swap out translators.

End of chapter, end of volume. No time like the present.

Feel free to use the thread to discuss anything Rin-ne related. I have some stuff I'll posting here and there to bump the thread.

I will be returning next Wednesday to dump Volume 16 of Rin-ne. In addition, I will be dumping the Rumic one-shot "The Shape of Gluttony" in that thread. I previously skipped this because I was not able to locate it. It is a very short little thing from 1982, so it'll be quite a jump.
