Kirakira Precure A La Review 21!

I'll try and be fast as to not clutter up the fresh episode; besides I got some new books today on mermaids.

Summary for the anons that need it: Ciel is lost in thought as she happens upon Ichika hard deciding on strawberries. Ciel is so confused by Ichika's kirakiraru power she confronts Ichika right in the middle of the shop, only for both to realize they are about to blurt their own interconnected secrets. The two make their purchases and then run their sepperate ways. Outside the shop, Ichika sees some strange lights. Going full predator mode, Ichika jumps the lights only to get bamboozled. When Ichika calls them ghosts, the old man ghost realizes what it is and he drags the girls up the mountain. Whipping out his umbrella, he has Ichika make the call to the mountain grove. Down in the town, Ciel sees the call and naruto runs up the mountain. With all the fairies showing up, Ichika calls for a party and everyone begins preparing the mousses for the celebration. When everything is together Ichika announces the party started, only for Ciel to stop them. The girls are confused, only for Ciel to reveal she is one of the more powerful fairies. After a some more verbal shenanigans, Bibury appears to steal all the kirakiraru. The Cures hop into action, but the MoTW is very strong with all the extra Kirakiraru about and Ciel pops in with an umbrella blast to save the Cures. With their motivation found in Ciel, the cures hop forward to purify the MoTW. Afterwards Fairy Ciel begs to become Whip's deciple; Custard and Macaron pondering how much Ciel now sounds like Ichika. But out of the darkness appears a super powered Julio. COOKING DECORATION: PEKORIN MOUSSES.

I do think it was a little odd Kiss and Zukyoon wrapped up the fight, but other than that, I really liked the episode. Nice to see Purirun finally fully back. I think the next set of episodes will be focused on getting Meroron to willingly join the team... however long that takes. I do wonder how strongly the relationship between Uta and Purirun will be focused on going forward, especially since that didn't seem all that important until episode 17. I think it'll be strongly emphasized, if only for the sake of making Meroron seethe for the next few episodes. At the very least, I wonder who Purirun will sleep with from now on...

I've heard good things abou Heartcatch. The whacky artstyle really stands out and looks like fun. Really reminds me of Stardust Witch Meruru.
I like Doremi and the touching episodes are the bestest.

I suppose it doesn't really matter which order you watch for a series like Precure, just picking what looks cute and fun and jumping in seems ideal.

On one hand, while the season doesn't really put Uta and Purirun's friendship at the forefront for most of the episodes before 17, there's still a lot of small moments that piled up between the two of them to the point where Purirun willing to give up anything for Uta's sake and Uta being depressed that her memories went away were perfectly believable. While the Uta/Purirun part of the arc is over (and I also agree the resolution to part of this arc was rushed this episode though it doesn't really impact my impression of the arc as a whole), Meroron still has to be dealt with one way or the other so the team can fully form. That's when I would say this arc is genuinely over. Maybe they'll reveal Meroron's secret before she willingly joins the team or maybe she'll save it for later; that's one plot element I'm unsure if they'll reveal soon or not.

From there the umbrella attack was more a distraction while the cures picked themselves up. The show seems to be pushing the point that Zakkuri can't do shit by himself as is pretty hard. Maybe Darkiine will force the Chokkine to actually work instead of revealing a new general. I don't think a shift in status quo on the general end will happen next episode though. I think the egg arc episodes by themselves where fine, but the overall plot and character development of Wonderful was very much just spinning its wheels. Nyammy was already practically part of the team by episode 24 IIRC, the only hang up she had for not doing a group pose was just the name of the group. If the Idol late second cour/early third cour episodes are all focused on fixing Meroron in time for the group attack episodes, it'll feel like some progress will be made every 2-3 episodes even if the progress will be slow. I kind of get what you mean, but "punching is bad" as an idea in the context of the other seasons is pretty silly (Hell, even the Kiras would have punched more if they thought it were effective against their enemies). Other than that though, Yuki's motivations were far more noble. She was keeping Mayu apart to protect her from whatever trouble the doggy duo attracted, and it didn't help that the doggy duo didn't seem all that reliable to be honest. It wasn't her job as a pet before to care about random wild animals. That's a little selfish, maybe but perfectly reasonable.
Meanwhile, Meroron is legitimately strongly selfish and wants to be number one to Purirun, even resorting to trying to isolate her from the others and stealing a house. Her desire to be number one is ultimately secondary to Purirun's happiness, so she's not completely selfish. She did feel sorry that Purirun was sad and stealing the gummies (or coercing Tanaka to buy them) was her way of trying to deal with that, but she's still all to willing to let her selfish take control if she thinks she can get away with it in a way that doesn't interfere with Purirun's happiness. Precure does have signficant leeway for letting the writer's quirks shine through, so their previous experiences definitely influences how a season eventually turns out. Fresh showed the boy show influence by being the first season to incorporate scifi into its lore, and Doki did so by subtly referencing the seven deadly sins during the season. As for Idol, the most obvious comparison to the writer's previous boy oriented work is how the general trio were a Yatterman-type trio, and the writer was the main writer for Time Bokan 24 (a reimagining of a series in the same franchise as Yatterman).

I think Makopi being a lone wolf soldier and Mana literally fighting against a LITERAL DRAGON are good examples of Doki being kinda shounen-ish.
Mana is basically like a genderbent protagonist of a boy show, it's why the show focuses so much on her, she would be the leader of a harem in another world.

I do think a fair complaint is that the Uta/Purirun/Meroron focus of the past 7 (and probably 8 as of next episode) has choked out the Nana and Kokoro relevance. Since Uta and Purirun's issues have been pretty much settled though, that may mean Nana and Kokoro may be able to shine in July and August though as the arc to fix Meroron continues.
