Tbf this fort's layout was minmaxed for use as a ranged platform, once someone got in there's not much they can do. The main castle will have a far better layout to accommodate melee and will be so, so much costlier to take, you'll see

I think it's funny how the whole plan relied on just 4 people storming the fort and taking it when a mistake alone caused two of them to die. If their attack failed then their whole rebellion would have been stopped then and there. That was too risky of a gamble.

Oh, I don't doubt you. We're not even halfway through so the story won't end yet. What I wonder though is how Wolfram is going to be inserted in this rebellion escalation.
It's funny how my town has a similar folk tale:
People were building a church, the devil took notice and warned a construction worker that he would not let them finish doing so. Said construction worker decides to make a pact with him: The construction will proceed undisturbed, but only if the first one to enter the church will be damned to hell. When the church is complete, they decide to have a goat enter the church first. The devil is then so infuriated to have been tricked that he climbs up the church and tries to rip off the roof, but the church was so well-built that the roof, while having been twisted into a spiral shape, still stood firmly in its place.
Truth be told, the roof just wasn't built right, but the tale was made up to put a positive spin to its messed-up shape.

Letting Berthold be outnumbered and trapped with the confederate rebels was the greatest blunder of Wolfram. If that knight had been able to retreat and recuperate, the rebels would have lost many more people at other strategic chokepoints.

Given their lack of cavalry, the greater numbers of the enemy forces, and the peasantry's gunpowder, there's not much that can be taken advantage of. Trying to hold captives for ransom might've done something, but it's clear that Wolfram's not the kind to do that--nor the Swiss to believe any kind of deal could be obtained.
The only mistakes so far have been leaving the gatehouses unguarded and abandoning Berthold in the courtyard: he could've held a more enclosed position for a day on his own

Not really much that can be done now. Should've guarded the gatehouses better.
Before this blunder they could've kept pouring molten lead inside the place where people were trapped in the north gate and tried to destroy the south bridge itself instead but I don't think they have big rocks to do that.
