Reiji groomed her the same way Rin's groomed sensei really. Left to their own devices Aki/Aoki (I'm slow, just noticed how close their names are) wouldn't reciprocate those feelings but went ahead and did anyway.

Kodomo no Jikan's a great story but it does honestly have such a weird development to me. Because Rin starts so young even with all the fanservice it's impossible to seriously think she and Aoki will be together and he'll fall in love like that. And in some ways it feels like the story is developing towards him being like a father figure and maybe he'll date Houin at some point or something. But then it really does just go all out and he admits he's in love with Rin later on. Like no holding back whatsoever.

But I can definitely imagine a world where we got one more volume covering a bit of high school; maybe some drama when the other elementary teachers, especially Boin, learn about Aoki and Rin; their wedding. That was part of his struggle, wasn't it? He had to figure out what his relationship with her was. Was it just the love a teacher has for a student, the love a father has for a daughter, or did he see her as someone of the opposite gender? And if it was the last one, was it because she was a kid or because he saw her as a complete person? I think the story did a wonderful job at showing how he came to his conclusion. It helps that Kokonoe is wise beyond her years too, even if she's still a little naive.

This manga is truly Pixar's version of the entire loli genre. It asks the question "what if lolis had feelings?" and then it turns classic loli hentai archetypes like the tsundere pettanko, the shy oppai loli bookworm and the promiscuous mesugaki into characters you can empathize with and root for, showing why they were that way in the beginning and allowing them to grow beyond that role without betraying their original appeal. It also shows how there are boundaries adults should respect and that even if they are in a loli manga, these lolis are actual children and should first and foremost protected and cherished.
I just want to say, I can't believe how happy I am with this ending.
A development like this would disgust me in any other manga, but this kiss feels so well-earned and genuine that I can't help but cry.
I'm gonna miss this daily.
