it takes away from the beauty of star crossed lovers. if it was me, i'd make the main character a sickly person from the beginning. after graduating he goes to college for a teaching career, then starts to teach in that highschool. after a few years, he dies of sickness. but there really isn't a need to show anything more after she goes away forever. the beauty is that they couldn't be forever together and it started and ended with their love

The ending, it felt really cheap to do a whole lengthy emotional send-off followed by JUST KIDDING I'M BACK TEE HEE. I'm not adverse to happy endings, but that was just total whiplash after fully building up to something else. Otherwise great series and it doesn't need a remake. OP is a banger too

I'm thinking of writing a scipt for a live action remake set in The Blue Mountains, Australia.
"Yuuko Kanoe" becomes "Luna Kenway", the characters are aged up a bit changing the setting to the first year of university (18ish) instead of high school, Yuuko/Luna's time period would be set to early 20th century when the great war was beginning and a famine started taking place at the time. Instead of being sacrificied to Japanese gods, she could have been killed by Aboriginals doing some juju rubbish thinking it would cause the raingods to be happy, and died in one of the many cave systems there. I'd also change it up a lottle bit so that there's more of a focus on the drama/mystery/romance rather than the silly high school club stuff that we've seen a million times before.
I'm thinking of the East of Eden film with James Dean while preparing to write this one ngl.
Do I pitch it to Netflix when I'm done?

I think I like that idea. Bittersweet endings are always nice but i feel like their love should have some lasting effect otherwise its too tragic if they both just die and thats the end of it, it especially undermines Yuukos sacrifice if Asa-chans descendent just dies off.
Maybe before he dies he has a kid with Kirie, who only got to know the main character because of Yuuko. Then Asa-chan and Yuuko now are connected by blood and it wasnt all pointless?

maybe i'm biased in how i remember it in a sea of shows at the time that couldn't do it, but a satisfying part of the conclusion was a definitive pairing at the end rather than harem MC cop out of not choosing a girl
