Some accept/tolerate it because it's a way to get the girl they want, others embrace it. Some would lie to themselves.
Doesn't have to be a humiliation thing though, as long as you don't have a grotesque Reddit or /r9k/ personality, even a seriously disfigured guy (as in your face was destroyed in war or a housefire) can get farther than many people think on the sympathy and pity.
Very few people are that cripplingly ugly though, most guys lamenting how they don't have looks good enough for girls, would in reality most likely be able to achieve at least average attractiveness if they got in better shape and put some effort into their looks.
Slightly tangential, but if you ever saw that one pic of a troon with bad teeth making the rounds, he looked absolutely ghastly and absurd in that pic, but he eventually detransitioned (no idea how far he went with pills and surgery, if any). In his after pic, where he presents himself as the guy he actually is, he doesn't actually look that bad, not moviestar looks, but you don't get that absolute Quasimodo gut reaction like before, he looks decent, like any guy random guy off the street.
He went from being attractive to nobody at all, to having average looks, meaning an average chance.
Your health and how you present yourself to the world makes a huge difference.
