This is it. While the Japanese still don't focus on them as much so sometimes they inadvertently end up not showing them. They still are the most common form of nudity that is also even allowed in anime for teenagers. Any old bath scene has a good chance to show butts. There are also characters like lolis where their main asset is their butt which basically guarantees a butt shot. Butts will only become more common as anime gets more daring with nudity. Nipples still are pretty much reserved for ecchi.

I feel like the Japanese actually like butts more. They just view them in a slightly different way which means they aren't treated nearly as lewdly as tits. The Japanese seem to prefer stuff like bellies and thighs though and I feel like they group butts alongside those. A position that means they sometimes don't get the spotlight of tits, but are still very much loved. It doesn't help that some people act like they aren't true butt loves because they prefer smaller modest butts. They probably search for boobs more because the butts are considered a given if a girl is naked and it isn't something for young children.

I think a butt is too big when it starts to mess with a girl's impression. Like when it starts to make her look like one of those obese latinas or one of those super mature female characters you see in some shooters. While I like butts, I'd never play something like Nikke because of this. They make the girls' butts gross looking in the mode that matters (they also make a deliberate effort to cover up all the lolis but that is a separate issue). I don't want the butt to mess with the girl's appearance and make her look like some generic slut or fatty.
