How many people here genuinely see anime as an artform worth appreciating? Whenever I browse this board, it just feels like a blue version of /e/ and there is very little actual introspection done in terms of the quality of something as a work of art, instead mainly rated in terms of pure entertainment value instead. Very rarely do I ever see anything below the surface, and most threads are just people posting lusty artwork of characters. I guess I am in the wrong place, but it feels like all major places for anime discussion are like this. It makes me sad because Japan is one of the last countries to give 2 shits about traditional animation and making interesting works in that medium, yet the highest level of discussion is which girl you want to lick your penis.

Yeah idk what else to tell you OP if you're looking for a discussion or community surrounding anime and manga this isn't it. I'm only here because it's a kind of psychological self-harm to be honest. Nothing will ever make these people happy and nothing angers them more than to see happiness in others and so it's all just a rock-paper-scissors game where sex appeal beats plot, action beats sex appeal and plot doesn't beat anything for some gay made up reason.

I'd wager most everyone here genuinely sees anime as an artform worth appreciating; the problem is that, on average,
a.) people aren't good at articulating what they appreciate about a work
b.)Anime fans don't branch out of their comfort zone into other mediums (they don't even branch out all that much within THIS medium) to refine their tastes
c.) Anime works aren't usually artistic enough to merit deep introspection
