It's probably a mechanical growler since it only makes a simple sound and plays when you tilt the bear. Which means in a best case scenario it might just have come apart, and you could just snap or glue it back together. Or in a worst case scenario, Asagi could have just gone out and bought a new one, since you can find them at some specialty arts and crafts stores.

あんしんです is an unnatural thing to say here because 安心 is a word used to describe yourself and rarely others. Yotsuba is saying "I'm fine", "I'm relieved" (as in she's not worried about anything) when the person who is concerned and needs to be reassured is Yousuke. In this case you would correctly use 安心してください. So yeah I think the translation captured that well.

Nobody freaks out, someone even recognizes her from a previous community celebration. They call her dad, who arrives, apologizes and they have a meal.

The point of locking your fucking door when you aren't home is to prevent opportunistic crimes, and ONLY to prevent opportunistic crimes. Nobody wants some random fucking jackass on their morning walk realizing your fucking front door is unlocked and they can just take what they please. This happens everywhere, not just America.
Nobody is under any illusion that the shitty lock on your front door is going to stop anyone from breaking into your house if they really wanted to. Those types of crimes are unbelievably rare, and 98% of the time they are pre-meditated.

If just the thought, the mere idea, of a complete stranger entering a place you call home and rooting through your stuff is not upsetting in some way to you at all, then you are a broken human being. Or extremely privileged.
If that one thought isn't enough to exert the negligible amount of effort it takes to lock your car or house up when you leave either unattended, you frankly deserve your shit stolen.

I live in the 'nice' part of Berlin. Fuckers tried to get into my basement, and the police filed it as "property damage" rather than a break-in.
The neighbor above me had 1 (failed) attempted break-in with a drill. A week later, someone tore the vertical strip off his door with a crowbar, which the police called "material fatigue". On the same day, someone drilled though the door of another appartment in the house, which the police tried to claim was a pre-existing hole.
During that time, around 30 break-in attempts happed in my immediate neighborhood, which the police claimed to be unrelated incidents

burger here, when I went to canada for a trip, I learned a lot of candians don't always lock up when they leave too

when you look into it, the main reason why people used to not lock their doors all the time is in case of emergency. if someone needed help immediately and cell phones weren't around at that time, it was just safer for everyone to allow people access to your phones

sometimes you'll see those articles come out that some Texan surbanute shooting someone for stepping foot on the property to ask for help, and I wonder if those kind of people would be so murderous if cellphones werent around

The big numbers are for the hours, there's numbers that you can't see for the minutes, so 12 is 0 for minutes
Every number after that is 5 more, so 1 is 5, 2 is 10, 3 is 15, and so on
There's numbers in between too, so halfway between 2 and 3 could be 12 or 13 minutes, some clocks will even mark the minutes in between so you can count
It goes all the way around up to 60, where it goes back to 0 minutes and a new hour, because there's 60 minutes in an hour

60 minutes in an hour
12 numbers on the clock
60/12 is 5
So, each mark is 5 minutes

2 is 10 because 2x5 = 10

The long hand means "this number five times is the minute", while the short hand means "this number once is the hour". You can remember because the long hand is five times as long as the short hand (maybe).

12 is evenly splittable into 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12, or rather, wholes, halves, thirds, quarters, sixths, twelfths
10 on the other hand is only splittable into 1, 2, 5,10 or rather, wholes, halves, fifths, tenths
10 can not evenly split into thirds or quarters which makes it more obtuse to deal with at a glance compared to 12
same with 60, it's more evenly splittable than 100, and also because it's a factor of 12

Yes, it is. Though most people I know still lock their doors anyway.

I don't think I can communicate to people who haven't spent time here how real everything in Yotsuba is. The festivals, the sleepy train rides home*, the cozy and comfy shops run by the community. This is really one the big things that still hits me after all my years here, even in a big city like Tokyo, so many restaurants and cafes are just run by PEOPLE, small places that seat only a few and you can directly interact with the owners, not the big faceless megarestaurants you see all over the US that employ dozens of faceless people you'll never remember. Everything is just so real and alive.

learning how to tie shoelances is one of my earliest childhood memories. I remember being in preschool and pretty much everyone else already learned how to do it, but the teachers just weren't able to explain it to me in a way I could understand. So they said I should try it on my own for a while. After only a few minutes of trying to figure it out on my own, I learned how to do it.
It took me another 10 years before realizing that I can learn better on my own than trying to understand teachers.

I vaguely remember learning too, because my mom taught me, and it was some weird technique that literally only she, my siblings, and I use. Teachers told me I was doing it wrong but whatever. I'm nearly 40 now and still tie them that way, and on the off chance anyone sees me tying them, they ask wtf I'm doing.

considering I said 10 years(it was actually more like 13) that obviously would mean that it spanned over several school, thus it can't be "the teachers suck"
And I wouldn't dismiss it as simple as "you suck at learning from others" either. It's just some peoples brains work differently from others. However teachers are only taught to teach in one specific way, the way the majority of people(according to them) think like.
It's like, you may have heard stuff like "Some people learn by seeing, others by doing" and I would describe my type as "learn by reasoning".
