The reason Japanese humor sucks isn't just because they always explain the joke, or even because they tend to drag said jokes on longer than necessary. It's the fact that a punchline in comedy anime is almost always accompanied by these dumb faces drawn in different art styles. It makes it so that the joke might as well not even exist for any other reason than to justify the weird face. The girl does this too at multiple points in the episode.
