Welcome to the young love genre. The rules say kids can’t date and it’s hardly a new rule. Even Azuki-Chan was horrendously slow paced. You are lucky if you get to see a kiss on the cheek. CCS didn’t have any kissing and it is hardly explicitly stated that any of the main couples are dating. The only one I can think of that had a kiss was Naisho no Tsubomi and you only see it at the very end and it’s obscured. But that was just in the manga, in the anime it looks like they’re going to kiss but they chicken out. with this series I’m a little bit more optimistic because the author looks based and the rules are more relaxed for junior high schoolers.

Well I get that, 140 chapters over 4 or 5 years is a hell of slog but I think that’s kind of the appeal of the genre. Romance takes time and real romance is the little things. If you had a childhood friend it would make more sense.
