I knew they were gonna fuck around with the tone and stakes as soon as the first poster came out with him holding the crystal ball. They're gonna add a bunch of unnecessary action in a bid to make Nube "cooler", completely missing the point. Nube had moments of badassery in the original, but he was ultimately the coolest guy around because of his kindness, and the care he had for his students. Downplaying comedy and the episodic stuff ruins the balance of his character and his dynamics with the kids.

I don't like Kyoko's voice. It sounds too "cute", for lack of a better word. Not the biggest fan of Hiroshi or Miki's either, everyone else sounds fine enough. All the cartoonish comedy is gone, and any silly faces or jokes are much more restrained and grounded. As far the narrative of the first episode goes, all the changes from the manga are for the worse. The '96 anime made a ton of alterations to the first chapter too (most of which were bad) but it was a rewrite, in a way. The reboot's first episode brings in all the elements of the first chapter only to ruin them with pointless, arbitrary changes.

Having now seen both episodes subbed, I can safely say that it wasn't the worst thing I'd ever seen. Still, if I wasn't already invested in Nube, I'd have no reason to keep watching. All the charm from the original manga/anime has been wiped away and replaced with nothing. The only thing this reboot has going for it are the fight scenes, and even then, who cares? They've stripped so much character and context from these scenarios that the whole thing ends up being a shallow mess.

So, what's the reason for the censorship? This Studio is the same that did Fuuto PI, and while the anime did remove the nudity of the manga, it kept all of the ecchi scenes and still had moments where the pacing was allowed to slow down for more noir-esque scenes.
So why does Nube feel rushed, have to emphasize the action way more and remove all of the ecchi?
Is it the director? The channel? Shueisha? Or was Fuuto PI's staff's autism the reason they managed to balance ecchi, action and detective stuff while the rest of the staff from the studio isn't as good when it comes to pacing.

I think it's an enjoyable enough episodic manga, but in terms of action I don't know why you wouldn't read Yu Yu Hakusho or Ushio and Tora instead.

The manga had a cool "Go Nagai wannabe" vibe and it complimented the fanservice perfectly, the 90s anime's art style was a little different but it had the overall vibe of the manga still, this new one has nothing of that and looks way too generic, assuming they plan on adapting the whole manga there's plenty of chapters they would have to skip due to censorship, what about the demon girl who doesn't wear any pants and walks with her ass out at all times? she's too important of a character for the later arcs to just skip and they can't just add pants on her since going commando was a huge part of her character even when she showed up in the Izuna spin off
