Except lions don't have concepts concern for non-mate/offspring, or vengeance for harm that wasn't perpetrated directly on themselves. Those are very complex social behaviors that require a degree of empathy.

So they lack empathy for others but are not emotionless.

Their ability to speak is rooted in mimicry, but it's evolved past that, at least partially. They'll still instinctively spout shit they don't genuinely understand to humans, but they can functionally communicate among themselves when compelled to act against their asocial nature (e.g. at the behest of a stronger demon). Most demon socialization might just be a lingering top-down effect from the Demon King enforcing his LARP on the rest of demonkind.
