Kirakira Precure A La Review 25!

I'm turning into my dad. I'm really enjoying romance.

Summary: In the most unbelievable precure opening ever, Ciel reads a paper announcing an approaching prince. Nearby Akira entertains some children as Yukari waits, only to be seen by said prince. At the shop Yukari pets Pekorin complaining about Akira's need to appease children, only for the prince to show up. The prince is quick and starts dragging Yukari away to make her his princess. Its Akira who steps in and the princess takes this as a challenge for Yukari's hand. A competition is proposed and Akira is takenaback, but before she knows it she's in a race. The other girls are baffled by these events and wondering why Yukari would even agree to this since marriage is suppose to be about feelings; Yukari is too busy petting Pekorin to answer. The competitions end up going horribly for Akira as there were no ground rules. Akira is seemingly saved as she takes a beautiful dance with Yukari, on the level of a couple's first dance. The prince ends up falling into a pool trying to butt in. In a bit of desperation dessert is the next competition. Before that can happen, Akira confronts Yukari and asks her to stop playing with the prince's heart; she stomps off with the other girls eavesdropping. Next day Ciel comfronts Akira! Ciel expressing that Akira needs to be firm with Yukari citing her own inability to see her brother's suffering. Akira then goes to cook and Yukari awkwardly helps her make Chocolate Macaron. On their way to the prince, Yukari breaks down over the pressure of being seen as perfect, but never feeling it. Then the new General attacks. Chocolat must solo the general and she is tortured. But Chocolat is too head strong and breaks her binds ready to defend defenseless Yukari. The other girls appear and the MoTW is summoned just long enough to get cleansed. Yukari turns the Prince down and the Prince respects it as he lost to another prince; much to Akira's shagrin.

I'm not sure how much I like knowing her motivations, but its that classic "People think I'm perfect and therefore I'm going to teach you a lesson expecting so much of me." HS is the worst because it's a fat lot of nothing in terms of story, setting, side characters, and Sora. It isn't actively bad like HaCha, which is fundamentally broken because of Blue and all the issues that directly stem from him, but it would be better if it was, because at least HaCha is something. Something is better than nothing, even if that something is taken bare handedly from the middle of the compost heap.
Kira and DP are pretty harmless, their issues aren't fundamental ones that HaCha and HS royally fucked up on.

I'm three episodes into Heartcatch. It's my 9th series, so I'm an intermediate Precure fan. Not a veteran. Not a guru.

I'm sorry everyone. I think this show is pretty much perfect in every way. Love the characters, love the extremely high energy, love the super cute art that makes the show fun to look at on a moment-by-moment basis. This is a 10/10.

HC is by far the most popular season, and it does a lot of things right to make it appealing even if you aren't already a fan of the franchise. Namely it gives the MOTW a purpose within the narrative, something a lot of seasons either half-heartedly try to imitate or just simply don't bother with. I don't really see a lot of hate thrown its way that isn't just desperate contrarianism.

To try and give some criticism that isn't just "durr sucks cause popular" I do think its antagonists (aside from Dark Precure) are really generic and forgettable, and it's rather frustrating how Itsuki basically becomes a background character as soon as she actually joins the team.

It being by far the most popular Precure is actually kind of sad. I don't like when things peak early. In terms of writing and endearing characters, Heartcatch is average to slightly above average so far - every Precure excels there. Heartcatch's main strength is its beautiful visuals and general charm.

Forgot to mention that I love the opening and ending. The Fresh opening was cancer, Heartcatch opening is very soothing and the cure to cancer.

I honestly don't know if I'd say HC is the peak of the franchise, just the one that does the most things right in the most important ways. Most accessible might be more accurate? But in a long running show like this there's always gonna be certain x-factors that make a season your favorite even if it isn't "the best." I know one of my favorites is Maho and people are a lot more divided on that, for example.

Other than the criticism you mentioned, the one major reason that it's just great to me and not really one of my favorite seasons is that the episode by episode plots are very dependant on the VotW, most of whom are one offs. It's not a problem most of the time, but if the episode doesn't sell the viewer on the VotW, they are unlikely to enjoy the episode. All seasons have their less good episodes, but HC's less good episodes felt extra hard to watch because they focused on drama about a character I couldn't care less about. It's only really a problem for a handful of episodes, so I would still call it an overall great season, but I'd rather rewatch most seasons other than it because I generally like each of the episodes even if their highs aren't as high and the episode by episode CQC isn't nearly as consistent.

Kirakira Precure A La Review 26!

I'm not sure I have too much to say. The episode was funny, Aoi's cute swimsuit, silly Bibury.

Summary for the anons that need it: The girls are on their way to the beach, the three younger dying from the heat while Yukari watches Ciel's excitement. At the beach, Ichika wastes no time and summons the Patisserie and makes a giant innertube for the shop to sit on in the water. The girls then get down to fun until they are worn down by midday; Yukari rather entertained by all the downed girls. Slowly the shop drifts off. When everyone wakes up, the shop has run aground on a deserted island. Well the girls are industrious and like any good JRPG player they make a list of their fetch quests to get off the island. Kirakira to repair the tube, Desserts to make Kirakira, ingrediants to make desserts. Venturing out on the island they find bupkis. But there are fresh foot prints. Ichika does her best impression of Miyuki and face firsts it right into a cliffside. Pekorin scales the cliff only to find Bibury. Ciel offers to help Bibury, but Bibury blames the Cures for her lost love and runs away. Baffled, Ichika surprises Pekorin by leading her to a cave of magical ice. The girls take a few chunks back and make snowcones. Ciel who hasn't learned to speak up yet, finally says Bibury is there and she wants to take a snowcone to her. After finding Bibury again she tries to make a truce, but Bibury's love for Noir is too strong and she steals the kirakira from the snowcone to empower her doll; but its not enough power and the doll goes wild attacking whatever. Parfait is forced to save Bibury while the Cures wrangle the doll. Once the doll is cleansed, Ciel tries again, but Bibury only steals the kirakira a second time, but runs instead. Ciel is left disappointed and the girls head back to shore. COOKING DECORATION! PENGUIN SNOWCONES!

This episode felt like it was out of order of the last episode. The confrontation between Akira and Ciel would have worked better, but not completely, had this episode come first. It had some of the missing work Ciel needed to do to explain herself while trying to makeup with Bibury. And its great that Ciel is a bit of an ass at first, but she shows she's more caring and aware of other people with snowcone, and just in general trying to help Bibury as she is attacked by her doll.
