first and foremost, they are singers with virtual avatars, KAF was the first vsinger to peform at Budokan for example
their lore/myth as the witches was developed a bit later I believe, and now their company wants to capitalize on this by making them into the heroines of a multi-media franchise, with other girls from the company who are not the witches joining as side characters usually
there's already a VN and a rhythm game if you want to get more into the story aspect, both are on steam, also there's a pixel adventure game coming as well
also, all 5 of them have their own synth voice banks too
all this on top of a massive amount of original songs/albums and covers of course
I like them a lot, but honestly don't really see how much new fans the anime will bring, I might be a bit biased but I think the story will be decent based on the VN/other stuff we know, the visual presentation leaves much to be desired, though

Weird but in a good sense,9/10.The songs are annoying,at least a bit,but I'll manage,built a reasonable tolerance after seeing 12 eps of Princession.
This new anime seems like a mix of Momentary Lily(the biggest part I'd say,with girls and a somewhat pseudo-apocalypse),Date a Live(in which a bad event apparently changes or starts the plot) and Power Players(from the ending song,PP not being anime but a cartoon from Cartoon Network).

about the story, it's not a complete adaptation of the VN but there are certain elements that make the anime more understandable, but as I said before, I'm sure as the anime progresses, things will become clear so it's not really needed to read the VN
the Kamitsubaki City 'myth' is made up of a bunch of different stuff and the anime is also building block that I assume will give a good idea of the whole thing by the end, hope I didn't make it sound too complicated because it's not really that, but I think it's neat

The rhythm game also has its own story bits set in Kamitsubaki City, but that one is more about the Isotopes, the characters that are made for witches' synth voice banks, pic related.
