The manga version fucked it up by validating Tatsumaki's paranoia. It did this through having an actual infiltrator be amongst Fubuki's group, who also never stand up to her in the end. Instead Tatsumaki just lectures them about getting stronger, rather than the group deciding this by refusing to challenge a Tatsumaki at her weakest. Fubuki is reduced to a bit damsel in her own arc. Basically, she and her group lose their agency.
There's a lot more wrong than that of course (like Saitama vs Tatsumaki turning into less of a fight and more of a flirting contest), but those are glaring flaws. Not to mention, the changes to Blast beforehand completely fucks the arc up and made it impossible to properly adapt.

From what I can tell, he was just a one off shitheel in a volume bonus Murata did and then didn't reappear in the manga until nine years later, where Murata made him into even more of a villain. Like, he didn't reappear until 2023.
Meanwhile, Webcomic McCoy first appeared around two years after his first and only manga appearance, and ONE actually fleshed him out into a real character, and amusingly enough kick-started his redemption arc within a month of his manga reappearance, with him fully committing to it a few months later, as if to stick it to Murata making him a full villain instead of a sleazy rat man with a conscience.
He may have shown up in the manga first, but I still consider him one of ONE's characters.

The simplicity of the little arc makes it good. All McCoy did was put his own physical safety on the line instead of just sitting by the sidelines after he recognised that what Neo is doing will eventually also fall on him. McCoy's technically still being an underhanded sleazeball, he's just going after his own "safety net" this time, and so it works. I feel like what makes a redemption arc click is when the character doesn't need to undergo a complete restructuring of their personality, and less to do with what they've actually done.

I don't think it's strictly just his own safety he's worried about. The "rat fleeing a sinking ship" aspect is certainly there, but he's also clearly very distraught about what's happening to the Hero Association and acknowledges his own involvement in the situation and how he clearly did something really bad in helping Neo and undermining the Hero Association. He just thought Neo would still do good and pick up from where the HA left off (and they're really well organized so he has a compelling reason to think Neo is the better hero group), so him stealing HA data for his own benefit is a pretty harmless crime, right?
We'll see more of it when the Neo arc kicks off properly, but it's important to remember that McCoy makes a genuine effort to do his job right. He's certainly more than willing to make some underhanded moves to his own benefit when it comes to office politics, but he's fairly capable and an asset to his position for the most part. ONE have him enough depth to make both sleazy but not truly villainous, like many of his other characters, so him being forced to confront his own actions and gradually coming to realize that he does care about others and doing the right thing over his own self-benefit despite initially being driven by (and convicting himself to act because of) self-interest makes him a pretty unique and compelling character.
ONE really is an amazing author and I'm excited to see where he takes these characters next.
