Reverse-Deconstructionism - While one might think the left all as subversions of the right with their own heavy gimmicks, in reality the line of progress in a genre tends towards generification as the tropes begin playing themselves straight to the point of ridiculousness.
It's interesting but sad really, even looking at worldbuilding in general, the medium starts at far more creative back in the 90s and 2000s in what setting to choose, but has coalesed into generic JRPG medieval europe by the mid 2010s...
