I once heard that the Re:Zero author got his start writing ZnK fanfiction, so I believe it.
It makes me wonder though: if ZnK is the pre-Narou-kei ancestor of the modern "summoned to another world", what's the pre-Narou-kei equivalent for "reincarnated to another world"? Or is that subtrope endemic to Narou, with its popular origin being Mushoku Tensei?
