How do you anons enjoy watching anime?
I've been having an issue for years where my enjoyment of anime has been dwindling. Not just anime either, but games and other media as well. It's kind of been killing me, because there are anime i (force myself to) watch and i end up despising it despite knowing FULL WELL that i should love it because of how much of a slog it was to make myself get through it. What's worse is when i watch anime or play games with my siblings, i experience the same enjoyment i used to experience years ago.

I don't know what happened to me. I don't even have tiktok or scroll through youtube shorts or that kind of short form content. Why is my brain fucked man

The more anime you watch, the less anime you watch.

How long have you been watching anime for and how many anime have you watched?
If you haven't been watching anime for that long and have only seen like approximately 100 titles its not uncommon for you to hit this slump. I remember back in the day it was called the two year anime phase since most people only watched anime for about two years before phasing out of it due to disinterest. If you have watched anime for a long time and have watched a ton of shit like 300+ titles then it might be a little bit more complex of an issue.
>anime i (force myself to) watch and i end up despising it despite knowing FULL WELL that i should love it
Why should you love it? Is this external pressure such as it being highly rated or a recommendation from friends or peers?
If its external pressure then you should just understand that the more anime you watch the more you will realize popular anime are generally extremely derivative and generic and the more of them you watch the more you realize it. You may just need to ignore what other people tell you and watch what you personally find enjoyable.
I started watching anime in the early 2010s and honestly like around 2020 I really started to question if I still enjoyed it because every new popular title felt like shit. I solved the issue by going back to what made me fall in love with anime originally and I realized I didn't hate anime, I just didn't like anime that newer anime fans liked. When I went back and watched some older titles that I hadn't gotten around to I actually found out I really still loved anime.

Your brain is not "fucked". You have matured and your tastes have changed.

I'm not a fan of anime as much as I'm a fan of the anime I like. I treat the shows/movies of the genre the same as the rest of my film collection. Just don't prioritize it over the rest or obsess about it.

I have anime that I enjoy more when watching with others. The same with some of my film collection. Just think of it as the "theater" experience.

There are other forms of entertainment, hobbies and pastimes out there. You might want to look into them. Find ones that involve direct contact with others.

Relax. Get out. Enjoy life. Have fun.

Idk, you're probably just burnt out on it. I get that way sometimes and just stop. There's no reason to force yourself to watch anime or play video games if you don't want to. Eventually you'll get bored after a while and decide you want to watch another anime or something again, in the mean time, find other shit to do or watch.

>When I went back and watched some older titles that I hadn't gotten around to I actually found out I really still loved anime.
Yep. About 6 years ago I got my first smart TV that had the streaming channels and such. One hot summer day I was too tired to do anything and decided to see what was on the anime channel. It was an early 00s shojou series called Ultra Maniac. Most I've liked an anime in a long, long time. Made me realize I never stopped liking anime. Anime just changed out from under me.

These days my hobby is impulse buying random old-ass anime DVDs I've never heard of, since they're piss cheap these days. Discovered a lot of really good shit I wouldn't have bothered with otherwise. Kaleido Star is REALLY fucking good.

You grew out of it. It happens. Just one day you don't want to watch a bunch of poorly drawn highschool girls sqawk at eachother

Don't force yourself to watch anything. Just watch what you want to watch. Hate CGDCT, or serious shows, or "classics"? Skip 'em. Like moe and ecchi shows, or battle shonen, or "pretentious" anime? Watch 'em.
>i experience the same enjoyment i used to experience years ago.
Maybe all you want is someone to talk with these things about. A completely reasonable way to enjoy art.

I've watched only a little over 200 titles, which isn't that much comparatively im aware. I've been watching anime for over a decade now but I've always been pretty slow with it.
>Why should you love it?
I guess because im not insanely picky with my tastes. I like idol shit, i enjoy moe, fucking love denpa. Anything with a plot deeper than 5 inches is at least tolerable to me as well (most times).

But i do think you have a point, most of my favourite stuff isn't the mainstream popular stuff and are just series that i had to dig to find. Perhaps i really am just laying the mental pressure on thick to watch as much stuff as i can so im "knowledgable" about anime. Whatever that means. Thanks anon

Noted. My anxiety when going at things solo can get needlessly high for no reason, i need to lay the edge off.

>>280251053
Thank you. I have a hard time internalising that i can don't have to love everything sometimes.
