The only reason Monogatari does this is because it's mostly characters doing nothing but sitting in place and talking. They do it so that there's at least something happening on the screen.

I mean when you think about it a lot of anime is like 60% or more sitting in a place and talking even action shows. Like just think about it for a second and you'll realize most anime is nothing but talking because animating the detailed characters is kinda hard. Most anime could learn a thing or two from Monogatari when it comes to keeping things visually interesting when nothing is actually going on.

Right? That series is basically a slide show for an audiobook but it's so good.
