It's kind of crazy how this has literally zero presence in the western community. You'd think an ongoing new shounen series by the FMA author would have any discussion or motion at all... ever... It's not even a diversion like Silver Spoon was. It seems perfectly in line with what FMA fans would like.
I remember when it first started, but how many people weren't even aware that Arakawa had a new series ongoing for 4 years?
Also side note, I hate the English title 'Daemons of the Shadow Realm'. It's clunky and just makes me think of Yu-Gi-Oh. Shadow Realm, really? They couldn't call it anything else?

It's a modern fantasy series. It's set in modern day and there are people with magical powers that the general population isn't aware of. Mostly underground, criminal stuff.
The main character is from an isolated mountain village with no access to modern technology so its a fish out of water story for him as he adjusts to the outside world. This reveal happens right at the start, there isn't any attempt to draw the twist out or anything, it's pretty much a first chapter revelation for the main character.

I can't recall off the top of my head any series which does such a reveal towards the end. Maybe AoT if you squint.

I caught up with the manga and I still don't think they were justified in killing a bunch of random villagers in chapter 1. Sure some adults were into the plot but I imagine some of them are oblivious as well.
This is why I can never sympathize with Gaap and hope she dies.

Nah all the adults of the village were in on it, they explain that all villagers when they reach a certain age are told of the grand purpose the the village and the twins, and those who object to it are sent to the outside world so as not to try to interfere with the twins.
