Shakugan no Shana protagonist unknowingly died before the start of the story and became a "Torch" (basically a zombie that fades from peoples' memories as it runs out of juice), he didn't notice because someone stashed a priceless artifact in his chest that recharges the bearer's mana to full every 24 hours.

There was some horror manga I read that was kind of like this. Starts off introducing this guy who is clearly supposed to be the MC and it follows him for the first handful of chapters establishing that he's the central character out of the cast. He even does the whole speech trying to rally everyone together because they all woke up in this weird place full of monsters.
But then when they get confronted by a monster there's this whole plan how to take it down with the "MC" leading the charge. It goes wrong and the monster gets the MC and he has this whole inner monologue about how he's counting on the others to save him, but then reality kicks in and he realizes that no one is moving to come help him because they still don't know what the fuck is going on and aren't about to risk themselves for some random guy. And then he ends up just getting killed by the monster and everyone is like "wtf was that retard's problem?" and moves on like nothing happened.
It continued on after that but it was a pretty funny bait and switch. Wish I could remember the name of the manga.
